A specimen of Hedychridium caeruleum (Norton) with four ocelli was discovered in Manitoba, Canada. The supernumerary ocellus is located to the right of the ocellar triangle, which otherwise appears normal. This is the first report of an ocellar or ocular teratology within Chrysididae, adding to the small body of literature currently available on supernumerary ocelli within Hymenoptera. This is the first published record of H. caeruleum in Canada.

Here we report the first records of Pseudoanthidium nanum (Mocsáry) (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae) and Hylaeus hyalinatus Smith (Hymenoptera: Colletidae) for the state of Indiana. P. nanum was first detected in Gary, Lake County during August, 2023, and multiple specimens of H. hyalinatus were collected from 2021 to 2023 in Marion, Grant County. These records fill gaps in the Midwestern ranges of both species.

Dispersal of chalcid wasp larvae inhabiting the seeds of angiosperms by wild birds in North America has never been verified. I describe adult Megastigmus aculeatus Swederus that successfully emerged from seeds extracted from the droppings of six species of native North American non-captive birds. Rosa setigera is also confirmed as a host for this wasp for the first time.

Soybean tentiform leafminer (STL), Macrosaccus morrisella (Fitch) (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), is a leaf-mining microlepidopteran native to North America that was recently discovered feeding on soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merr., in Canada and the United States. A laboratory rearing system for STL was developed on live soybean plants. The methods for continuous rearing or cyclic (i.e., generational) production of insects are described herein. All rearing was performed in a walk-in environmental chamber at 25°C (±2°C), with ~70% relative humidity and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D). We present results of the first long-term study on spatiotemporal variations in the composition and structure of ground-dwelling beetle assemblages from a grassland and adjacent woods in eastern Canada. It is the third part of an investigation on the beetle biodiversity using diverse methods between 2006 and 2012. During the entire snow-free season (April/May to October) in 2006–2010, we collected by pitfall trapping 67694 individuals representing 386 Coleoptera species and morphospecies belonging to 35 families in southern Québec. Adventive species represented at least 51.9% of individuals. Carabidae and Staphylinidae were the most abundant families and had the highest species richness …

In the eastern United States abiotic forest disturbances are common and cause extensive tree damage. Freshly broken trees and tree branches attract bark and ambrosia beetles that utilize inner bark and xylem of damaged branches and trees to fill requisite habitat needs. An ice storm in February 2003 on the Wayne National Forest presented an opportunity to study the local ambrosia beetle species and their reaction to this storm event. Chipping and debarking of infested woody material such as branches and logs are common sanitation methods used to kill bark- and wood-infesting insects. The sixspined ips, Ips calligraphus (Germar), is a native North American bark beetle (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) that infests several pine (Pinus) species. We evaluated I. calligraphus mortality after debarking and grinding, using 12 recently cut longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Mill.) logs that had undergone natural colonization for three weeks in Florida. Horned powder-post beetles (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) are a geographically widespread family of wood-boring beetles. While members of this family represent important grain pests, are often intercepted in ports, and may play an important role in ecosystem processes, little work has investigated bostrichid life history in their native ranges. This gap limits our ability to assess ecosystem services and invasiveness. Three native species, Amphicerus bicaudatus (Say), Scobicia bidentata (Horn), and Xylobiops basilaris (Say), are commonly found in savannas in Northern Illinois. Ground beetle (Coleoptera: Carabidae) species assemblages were studied at sites on the Huron-Manistee National Forests in Newaygo County, Michigan. The goal was to monitor changes in carabid diversity on areas where mature red pine (Pinus resinosa Sol. ex Aiton) was removed during the 1996-1997 winter and compare with carabid diversity at nearby natural dry sand prairie sites, natural oak-pine barrens, and uncut red pine stands. The red pine had been planted on dry sand prairie sites during 1940-1950. Sampling with pitfall traps occurred during May-August in both 1996 and 1997, but only July-August in 1999. 1. The local population dynamics of an invasive species are important for predicting impacts and determining proper management approaches. Temporal and spatial distribution can influence monitoring and treatment decisions and understanding climatic variables that affect population size can help predict peak population numbers.
2. Drosophila suzukii (Matsumara, 1931) is an invasive fruit pest, and its seasonal dynamics vary across its range. In this study, we conducted a three-year trapping study in conjunction with various modeling approaches to determine the environmental variables that influence population dynamics of D. suzukii across all seasons in central Kentucky.

Jasmine leaf webworm, Nausinoe geometralis, is a significant pest of Jasminum spp. commonly known as Jasmine plant. This plant holds a special place in Pakistan's culture; as it is declared as its national flower. N. geometralis feeds on the leaves of the jasmine plant; leaving it damaged and unattractive. Herbivore's attack stimulates chemical production in the plants; that communicates with natural enemies (chemical communication) and urges them for help (i.e. cry-for-help phenomenon). Such chemicals play an important role to attract the parasitoids and increase the chances of host pests' encounter. Current studies were performed to observe the extracts' efficacy in order to attract the parasitoid (i.e. Diadegma insulare) and thereby increase the likelihood of encounter with the host pest (i.e. Plutella xylostella). The invasive armored scale, Lepidosaphes laterochitinosa Green 1925 (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Diaspididae), was found in the Florida landscape for the first time in November 2022 and is now known from two south Florida counties: Broward and Miami-Dade. In Florida thus far, this polyphagous species has been found on Epipremnum pinnatum (L.) Engl. (Araceae), Dracaena Vand. ex. L. (Asparagaceae), and Breynia disticha J. R. Forst. and G. Forst. Two new species, Anthrenus kushangaza Holloway and Herrmann and Anthrenus kittenbergeri Holloway and Herrmann (Coleoptera: Dermestidae: Megatominae) from northeast Africa are described. Images of internal and external features are presented and compared with A. crustaceus Reitter and A. rauterbergi Reitter, both of which are found in the same geographical region as the new species.

A new pygmy unicorn genus, Brazitettix Silva, new genus, and two new species, Brazitettix roraimae Silva, new species and Brazitettix paulista Silva, new species (Orthoptera: Caelifera: Tetrigidae) are described in Brazil. This new genus is a unique tetrigid taxon in the American continent due a notched-long and elevated head projection. The morphology of this taxon resembles Rostella Hancock, 1913 and Dravidacris Bhaskar and Kasalo, 2022 that are currently comprised into Cleostratini, an artificial group that contains biogeographic distant taxa with distinct morphological head projection.

Wildlife are hosts of ectoparasites, such as fleas and ticks that may transmit human and animal pathogens. Little is known about the ecology of many ectoparasite species native to southern Texas, or their role in pathogen maintenance and transmission. Much attention has been given to the role of nonnative nilgai antelope as cattle fever tick hosts and agents of dispersal, but little attention has been given to other ectoparasites that may utilize nilgai antelope as hosts.
