Pay communication is an important yet complex organizational practice that assists organizations in achieving their compensation systems' goals and objectives (Gely and Bierman 2003). However, the management literature has neglected the pay communication concept, resulting in a scarce and undeveloped knowledge base on pay secrecy and pay openness. Given this opportunity, this dissertation focuses on pay communication and its influence on employee behaviors.

Chapter 2 presents an overview of the pay communication literature in the management discipline. A broader analysis of pay secrecy practices is provided since it is the practice primarily focused on in the pay communication literature, including …

Despite their significance within the apparel industry, retailers selling just their own brand of apparel (single-brand apparel retailers) have not been examined for the relationship between their store environment and customer responses. This study explores the effect of store environment on customers' internal evaluations and behavior toward single-brand apparel retailers. Further, to understand the store-as-a-brand strategy, this study examined whether customers have similar cognitive and affective perceptions toward the store versus merchandise. The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS) received funds to create a task force to determine the best strategies to ensure that students have an opportunity to understand their discipline in a global context. The CEBS Global Pathways Initiative Committee created a generic module on globalization principles that can be integrated into any course in all program areas. These curriculum materials provide a basic introduction to existing knowledge regarding cultural competence. China's rapid economic growth over the past three decades has drawn attention from all over the world. The sources and reliability of the official statistics behind the tremendous growth have been the subject of heated debate among economists. This paper contributes to this data reliability debate by analyzing on the GDP statistics of China and seeks to establish whether or not the official data are valid.

Most rural Nebraskan households have full-time employment and many employed households derive part of their household income from self-employment. Self-employment is more prevalent in smaller communities. Most rural Nebraskans living in or near the smallest communities have self-employment in their household.

Some rural Nebraska households also have multiple job holding by members of the household. Again, this is more likely to occur in the smallest communities.

Most self-employed rural Nebraskan households get less than one-half of their total household income from self-employment. However, over one-quarter (29%) of self-employed rural Nebraskans get almost all of their household income from self-employment. Many …

The Financial Characteristics Of Large And Small Firms Before And After The 2008 Stock Market Crash, Daniel Folkinshteyn, Gulser Meric

The financial crisis of 2008, and the associated bear market lasting from October 2007 to March 2009, has had a significant impact on a broad cross section of firms in the global economy. Of particular interest to us in this study is the effect of this time period on the financial characteristics of firms, with extra focus on debt-related ratios. Using a large sample of U.S. firms from the COMPUSTAT database, we find that firms, on average, come out of the financial crisis with less insolvency and bankruptcy risk, more efficient asset utilization, and more attractive market valuations.

"Big Questions" is a 13-episode series of stories from around the world that highlights impoverished and stressed communities and those who have come to their aid. The series if based on the question, "What can on person do to change the world?" It was produced cooperatively by four colleges at DePaul--Business, Communication, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Computing and Digital Media, by faculty and students and aired on local PBS stations.

Introduction:

Western Kentucky University Library had a large two-level, but largely unused lobby that had once been the library’s entrance but had been closed as a new entrance was created. By 2002, it sat empty and all but devoid of human traffic just outside our Reference area. Also, in 2002, Reference statistics were down, as was Circulation and library usage in general. Dean Binder believed that with the renovation and development of this former lobby, the library would realize an increase in campus visibility and library usage would increase.

Analysis Of The Relation Between The Spiders Spot And Option Implied Volatility., Stoyu Ivanov

In this study we use spectral analysis on SPY (Spiders) options to examine the relation between option spot and implied volatility for this exchange trade fund. We attempt to address the question is there a relation between the option spot and implied volatility or option implied volatility has no relation with the spot exchange trade fund volatility. We find that this relation does exist for SPY at-the-money call and put options and the in-the-money call and out-of-the-money put options.
