Aviation Managers’ Perspective On The Importance Of Education, Jason M. Newcomer, James W. Marion Jr, Matthew P. Earnhardt
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
The U.S. Department of Labor reported that working adults with at least a four-year college degree earned an annual average salary of $63,400 compared to the $24,300 salary of high school graduates with no college. The purpose of this quantitative non-experimental study was to survey managers in the U.S. aviation industry to describe their perspective on how education has impacted them. Following a robust review of the literature, we analyzed the responses from 103 managers’ and discovered that there is a significant association between degree importance and level of education among aviation managers that has application to professional practice. An Analysis Of The Impact Of Variation In Mean Time Between Demand On Air Force Fleet Level Aircraft Parts Inventories, Andrew J. Berger, Caleb S. Murphy
An Analysis Of The Impact Of Variation In Mean Time Between Demand On Air Force Fleet Level Aircraft Parts Inventories, Andrew J. Berger, Caleb S. Murphy
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis researched the accuracy of demand forecasting and impact of demand variation on requirements definition for Air Force aircraft secondary items. Specifically, this thesis sought to answer three questions: How does the Air Force calculate item requirements? , How accurate is the current system at predicting future item requirements? , and How do variations in predicted demand change item requirements? The literature review described the Air Force supply system for aircraft secondary items. Analysis into current demand forecast accuracy found that the level of error between actual and predicted historic demand was as high as 92% for the items …
Catastrophe Bonds, Steven D. Dolvin
Catastrophe Bonds, Steven D. Dolvin
All Chapters
Bonds are typically viewed as very conservative investments with relatively simple terms. However, the industry is quite complicated and offers some higher risk securities. For example, catastrophe bonds (or "cat-bonds") have normal cash repayments to lenders, except if a pre-defined catastrophe (hurricane, wildfire, earthquake, etc.) occurs. In this event, all bond cash flows cease. For obvious reasons, these are popular among issuers in the insurance industry, and the primary buyers are hedge funds (primarily due to the higher risk/return profile such bonds offer). Huge Week, Richard C. Crepeau
Huge Week, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
I’m just now getting into the World Cup as the recent sports calendar has been overloaded with prime events. With the battle for Lord Stanley’s Cup raging on, the NBA Finals testing the bounds of credulity, and the U.S. Open Golf Tournament on the menu, trying to fit the World Cup into my thoughts and my schedule was nearly too much to manage. Perhaps foolishly, I will try to do some justice to each of these penultimate sporting events here.

Developing A Metrics Framework For The Federal Government In Computer Security Incident Response, Vincent Sritapan, Walter Stewart, Jake Zhu, C.E. Tapie Rohm Jr.
Communications of the IIMA
As technology advances and society becomes more dependent on information technology (IT), the exposure to vulnerabilities and threats increases. These threats pertain to industry as well as government information systems. There is, however, a lack in how we measure the performance and create accountability for computer security incident response (CSIR) capabilities. Many government organizations still struggle to determine what security metrics to use and how to find value within these metrics. To fill this apparent gap, a metrics framework has been developed for incident response to serve as an internal analysis, supporting continuous improvement in incident reporting and strengthening the …

his article discusses the importance of Joomla as a Content Management System that is used by 2.7% of the web and how a possible new malware exploit has been discovered. The PHP BASE64 malware exploit is a well-documented exploit of PHP but the implementation of this exploit as it relates to Joomla is a very ingenious method not previously used before, as far as the authors were able to discover. In this particularly case, PHP code is embedded in a GIF file to produce a very sophisticated and unique malware exploit to Joomla.

This study focused on digital media dependency, relational orientation, and demographic variables as potential factors that were relevant to the usage of social networking websites (e.g., MySpace and Facebook) among college students. A total of 258 (101 male and 157 female) students completed the questionnaire that contains the measures of digital media dependency, relational orientation, social networking media usage, and demographic characteristics. The respondents also indicated specific types of things that they disclose (post) on their social media websites. The results showed that relational orientation is positively correlated with the disclosure (posting) of family photos, friends’ photos, and travel photos …

Green Index: Integration Of Environmental Performance, Green Innovativeness And Financial Performance, Ilknur Mary Joy Nirmala Tekin
Dissertations and Theses
The integration of sustainability performance of companies is becoming increasingly important. The recent global requirements (i.e. the Kyoto Protocol) for significant reduction of the negative impact of companies on the environment over the next 6 years have been putting pressure on the companies, requiring them to lower the negative environmental impact of market performance. This requirement challenges the profitable growth of the companies' business functions, given the change needed for business operations to improve on their environmental impact.
In this dissertation a new corporate sustainability performance index, called: The Green Index, for measuring and assessing the integrated sustainability performance of …

Exploring Capability Maturity Models And Relevant Practices As Solutions Addressing It Service Offshoring Project Issues, Rosine Hanna Salman
Dissertations and Theses
Western countries' information technology and software intensive firms are increasingly producing software and IT services in developing countries. With this swift advancement in offshoring, there are many issues that can be investigated which will enable companies to maximize their benefits from offshoring. However, significant challenges can occur throughout the lifecycle of offshoring IT service projects that turn the potential benefits into losses. This research investigated CMM/CMMI best practices and their effects on managing and mitigating critical issues associated with offshore development.
Using a web based survey, data was collected from 451 Information Technology and software development firms in the US. …
