Women In Top Management And Bank Performance: Evidence From Indonesia, Hunik Sri Runing Sawitri, Wisnu Untoro, Irwan Trinugroho

The Indonesian Capital Market Review

We investigate the impact of the presence of women in top management on bank performance controlling for bank specific factors, ownership and governance. By making use of sample of 70 Indonesian banks in a cross section study, we find strong evidence that the presence of women in the executives is negatively associated with firm performance. Moreover, we examine the moderating effect of TMT organizational tenure and TMT age. However, only little evidence is found in the effect of our moderating variables.

We find that (1) there is a positive contemporaneous return–volume relationship in both bull and bear markets, which is only significant in bull markets; (2) no evidence of asymmetry in contemporaneous relationship is …

The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of the behavioural activation system (BAS), the behavioural inhibition system (BIS) and emotions in virtual work. BIS was found to have significant positive relationships with anger, anxiety, annoyance, nervousness, and distress. There were indications of emotional contagion between research confederates and participants. Self-report skill knowledge and the skill role of the research confederate both had significant relationships with performance. Self-report skill knowledge was fully mediated by the skill role played by the research confederate. Managers of virtual teams need to be aware of individual differences such as motivational systems and …

Effects Of Exposure To Anthropomorphized Products On Social Behavior, Wade Wade, Dr. Ryan Elder Jan 2016

Effects Of Exposure To Anthropomorphized Products On Social Behavior, Wade Wade, Dr. Ryan Elder

Journal of Undergraduate Research

This project was designed to investigate the effects of exposure to anthropomorphized products on the way that consumers treat other people. Researchers have shown that people starved of social connectedness will sometimes seek relationships with products or brands as a way of relieving social insecurity and the fear of death (Rindfleisch, Burroughs & Wong, 2009). Additional research has shown that people whose needs for social interaction have been satisfied are more likely to dehumanize distant others (Waytz & Epley, 2012). We thus reasoned that anthropomorphism of brands and products, while efficacious for improving the consumer’s sense of social connectedness, might …

The Power Of Progress In Positive Identity Work, Rolf David Dixon Jr., Jeff Bednar Jan 2016

The Power Of Progress In Positive Identity Work, Rolf David Dixon Jr., Jeff Bednar

Journal of Undergraduate Research

The retention of employees is a major financial and cultural concern for almost all organizations. As a result, the study of voluntary turnover has a rich history in the domain of organizational behavior. We believe that this research has at least two blind spots that create an opportunity for new inquiry and insight. First, the nature of the employment contract between employees and organizations has changed over time. Employment in previous decades was largely founded on expectations of a long-term employment in one organization, however, in more recent years, this view of careers has been replaced with the notion that …

Managing Risk And Uncertainty In Supply Chains In The Face Of The Current Global Realities, Gurkan Ibrahim Akalin Jan 2016

Managing Risk And Uncertainty In Supply Chains In The Face Of The Current Global Realities, Gurkan Ibrahim Akalin

Information Systems & Operations Management Dissertations - Archive

For the last two decades, there has been an increasing academic and practitioner interest in understanding uncertainty and risks, identifying their sources, and managing, reducing and mitigating them in supply chains (SCs). Many sources of risk are already identified and grouped, and some good methods to reduce or cope with them have been described as well. However, literature has not been profound yet. Indeed, certain types of risk sources lack practical definitions and/or effective management techniques (Prater, 2005; Simangunsong et al., 2012). The financial crises of national economies in the late 2000s followed by a global recession (2008-2012) have escalated …
