Labor Market Integration Of New Immigrants In Spain, Núria Rodríguez-Planas, Natalia Nollenberger

Publications and Research

Immigrants’ employment status has worsened during the Great Recession in Spain. How much of this worsening is due to the recession, and how much to a composition effect? Using Spanish Labor Force Survey data from 2000 through 2011,we compare the employment trajectories of different cohorts of immigrants and natives and find that those who arrived before the 2008 recession had little trouble finding work immediately. In contrast, those who arrived after 2008 struggled to find work as Spanish unemployment rates skyrocketed. In addition, although many immigrants who arrived in Spain between 2000 and 2007 were able to find work and eventually …

Correlation Concerns, Steven D. Dolvin Feb 2016

Correlation Concerns, Steven D. Dolvin

All Chapters

Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT) is based on the notion that diversification creates better (a.k.a., more efficient) portfolios. The benefit of the diversification stems from less than perfect correlations between asset classes. However, during times of extreme stress, and even in recent years with market integration, correlation values have increased. This calls into question whether diversification will bring the full benefit that it is expected to provide. See article here, Bloomberg.

The Role Of Transaction Cost Economics In Information Technology Outsourcing Research: A Meta-Analysis Of The Choice Of Contract Type, Michael Schermann, Konrad Dongus, Philip Yetton, Helmut Krcmar Feb 2016

The Role Of Transaction Cost Economics In Information Technology Outsourcing Research: A Meta-Analysis Of The Choice Of Contract Type, Michael Schermann, Konrad Dongus, Philip Yetton, Helmut Krcmar

Information Systems and Analytics

Two recent reviews report that the empirical findings in information technology outsourcing (ITO) research are frequently inconsistent with the prevailing dominant analytical framework of transaction cost economics (TCE). While employing similar methodologies, the two reviews propose different strategies to resolve the inconsistencies. One is to improve the methodological rigor, specifically, the operationalization of TCE constructs. The other is to abandon TCE in favor of a new analytical framework. This paper presents a meta-analysis of the empirical findings on the choice of contract type as a function of task uncertainty. The results support both strategies. Refining the operationalization of TCE constructs, …

Pilot Perceptions On Impact Of Crew Rest Regulations On Safety And Fatigue, Lukas Rudari, Mary E. Johnson, Robert C. Geske, Lauren A. Sperlak

International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace

The risk of fatigue on pilot performance and safety is well recognized in aviation. In response to increased safety concerns, the Federal Aviation Administration addressed fatigue risk for passenger airline pilots in Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 117, which included accommodations to address fatigue related risk-factors such as circadian rhythm and the phenomenon commonly described as jet-lag. The rule became effective in January 2014. A survey was conducted in March and April of 2014 to better understand pilot perceptions of the new Part 117 rule. This study analyzed survey responses from 92 self-identified pilots to determine the effect …
