Family Law And Entrepreneurial Action, D. Gordon Smith Mar 2016

Family Law And Entrepreneurial Action, D. Gordon Smith

Faculty Scholarship

In "The Contractual Foundation of Family-Business Law," Benjamin Means aspires to lay the groundwork for a law of family businesses. In this brief response essay, I suggest that a workable family-business law along the lines suggested by Means is consistent with an overarching policy in the United States of promoting entrepreneurial action, and I evaluate the proposal against this policy goal, with particular attention to Means’s arguments in favor of “family-business defaults” and his concern over the potentially disruptive role of fiduciary law.

Sustainability And Business Performance, Cedric L. Char Mar 2016

Sustainability And Business Performance, Cedric L. Char

Honors Thesis

With climate change becoming more and more of an ominous reality, the concept of sustainability is gaining more and more traction, throughout both consumers and businesses. Companies that have implemented “green” initiatives have found that there are various potential benefits that can be derived from these sustainable practices. This study aims to quantify those benefits and examine how sustainable businesses perform in comparison to their non-sustainable counterparts. Using Newsweek’s Green Rankings, and several statistical tests, it was found that there are no statistically significant differences between sustainable firms and non-sustainable firms, showing that while sustainability may not yield any short-term …

From Inclusion For Some To Inclusion For All: A Case Study Of The Inclusion Program At One Catholic Elementary School, Emily Marie Paz Mar 2016

From Inclusion For Some To Inclusion For All: A Case Study Of The Inclusion Program At One Catholic Elementary School, Emily Marie Paz

LMU Theses and Dissertations

Catholic schools in the United States have grappled with how to serve students with disabilities without the funding sources available to public schools. This mixed methods case study examines the driving forces, restraining forces, and social justice issues that influenced the development of an inclusion program at one Catholic elementary school.

The case analyzed is the inclusion program at “St. Ignatius” Elementary School. Fourteen interviews with individuals heavily involved in the program were triangulated with qualitative analyses of the content of artifacts from the inclusion program and quantitative data from a rating scale on ideal inclusive practices completed by ten …

Women's Summit Presented by Bryant University

Welcome! Kristin Chenoweth’s song “I was here” speaks volumes when it comes to our theme for the 2016 Women’s Summit – Make Your Mark! The words struck a chord with me, especially, “You will notice me. I’ll be leaving my mark like initials carved in an old oak tree. Just wait and see. I want to do something that matters, say something different, something that sets the whole world on its ear.”

Last year, our opening keynote speaker, Sallie Krawcheck, told us that women want to engage in work that allows them to find meaning and purpose in their professional …

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates the importance of social media to college students as it relates to purchasing game tickets. More specifically, the thesis examines the role that Twitter and marketing play in purchase intentions of students that actually purchase tickets. The results demonstrate that those who have purchased a ticket membership package are more likely to follow said organization on Twitter. Results also found that no significant difference exists in Twitter Intensity based on whether or not a student has purchased a ticket membership package.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: White Papers

Libraries everywhere are undergoing tremendous transformation in staffing, services, and collections. The University of Nebraska at Lincoln Libraries invited us to review staffing, examine the organizational structure, communication pathways, and general workflows in the DARM and to make recommendations for changes that would improve and enhance service quality, improve productivity, and best align library faculty and staff with organizational priorities and needs. …

Nonlinear Time Series And Neural-Network Models Of Exchange Rates Between The Us Dollar And Major Currencies, David E. Allen, Michael Mcaleer, Shelton Peiris, Abhay Kumar Singh Mar 2016

Nonlinear Time Series And Neural-Network Models Of Exchange Rates Between The Us Dollar And Major Currencies, David E. Allen, Michael Mcaleer, Shelton Peiris, Abhay Kumar Singh

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

This paper features an analysis of major currency exchange rate movements in relation to the US dollar, as constituted in US dollar terms. Euro, British pound, Chinese yuan, and Japanese yen are modelled using a variety of non-linear models, including smooth transition regression models, logistic smooth transition regressions models, threshold autoregressive models, nonlinear autoregressive models, and additive nonlinear autoregressive models, plus Neural Network models. The models are evaluated on the basis of error metrics for twenty day out-of-sample forecasts using the mean average percentage errors (MAPE). The results suggest that there is no dominating class of time series models, and …

A Six-Stage Framework For Evolutionary Is Research Using Path Models: Conceptual Development And A Social Networking Illustration, Ned Kock, Murad Moqbel Mar 2016

A Six-Stage Framework For Evolutionary Is Research Using Path Models: Conceptual Development And A Social Networking Illustration, Ned Kock, Murad Moqbel

Information Systems Faculty Publications

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to fill a gap in evolutionary theorizing in the field of information systems. Evolutionary theorizing has recently been added as a useful tool to the research repertoire of information systems investigators. However, the literature on evolutionary theorizing and related empirical research lacks a clear framework that explicitly shows how information systems researchers can go, step-by-step, from a generic model of the evolution of traits in our ancestral past to a more specific model depicting the effects of technology facilitation of those traits among modern humans. The purpose of this study is to fill …

Conflict Of Interest In 401(K) Funds, Steven D. Dolvin Mar 2016

Conflict Of Interest In 401(K) Funds, Steven D. Dolvin

All Chapters

Companies often hire third party administrators (TPAs) to manage their respective 401(k) plans. Some companies simply provide documentation and advice; however, other TPAs actually offer their own proprietary (in-house) funds as investment alternatives. New research () shows that these funds often carry higher fees and have lower returns, illustrating the impact of a conflict of interest. This is particularly pronounced for banks and insurance companies acting as TPAs.

The Rise Of The Robo-Advisor, Steven D. Dolvin Mar 2016

The Rise Of The Robo-Advisor, Steven D. Dolvin

All Chapters

In response to high fees and varying levels of quality/service across traditional human advisors, new firms are transitioning to a fully automated framework. These so-called "Robo-Advisors" provide fully automated allocation and management strategies. This approach significantly reduces costs and standardizes risk-return matching strategies.
