Why Do Employees Break Rules? Understanding Organizational Rule-Breaking Behaviors In Hospitality, Ankita Ghosh, Cass Shum
Why Do Employees Break Rules? Understanding Organizational Rule-Breaking Behaviors In Hospitality, Ankita Ghosh, Cass Shum
Hospitality Faculty Research
This study explores employees’ organizational rule-breaking behaviors in the hospitality industry. Unlike the majority of hospitality literature which suggest rule-breakers are deviant, a growing stream of management research suggested that intentions behind rule-breaking behaviors among organizational employees include self-interest, to increase work efficiency, to help a subordinate or a coworker, and to provide good customer service. Our study extends the research on rule-breaking not only by studying the intentions of hospitality employee rule-breaking behaviors, but also by exploring the types of rules broken and the possible consequences of such behaviors. Eighty hospitality workers studying at a public university in the …

Customer Knowledge Management In The Cloud Ecosytem, Joseph O. Chan
Communications of the IIMA
The evolution of the economy has gone through the agricultural era, followed by the industrial era focusing on the production of goods and the postindustrial era accentuated by information and services. The new economy of the 21stcentury is characterized by knowledge and relationships. Galbreath (2002) described the transition to a new economic order driven by knowledge and based on the value of relationships. Customer knowledge management (CKM) synthesizes the customer knowledge and relationships assets in the extended enterprise to create advantages for companies in a very competitive market. Technologies have changed alongside the economy. Big Data and Cloud …

Cyber Capability Planning And The Need For An Expanded Cybersecurity Workforce, Tony Coulson, Megan Mason, Vincent Nestler
Communications of the IIMA
Cybersecurity is a national concern for the United States, yet the cybersecurity workforce is currently understaffed. Military capability planning can be used as a framework to evaluate and establish cybersecurity workforce development models, such as the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Framework. These models can be used in a way that provides the nation a methodology to enhance human resource capabilities and fill the cybersecurity workforce deficit. Furthermore, this report discusses the importance of establishing and enhancing strategic recruitment initiatives that can be utilized for building a cybersecurity pipeline.
Mining Useful Information From Big Data Models Through Semantic-Based Process Modelling And Analysis, Kingsley Okoye
Mining Useful Information From Big Data Models Through Semantic-Based Process Modelling And Analysis, Kingsley Okoye
Communications of the IIMA
Over the past few decades, most of the existing methods for analysing large growing knowledge bases, particularly Big Data, focus on building algorithms and/or technologies to help the knowledge-bases automatically or semi-automatically extend. Indeed, a vast number of such systems that construct the said large knowledge-bases continuously grow, and most often, they do not contain all of the facts about each process instance or elements that can be found within the process base. As a consequence, the resultant process models tend to be vague or missing value datasets. In view of such challenge, the work in this paper demonstrates that …

Diversification Of Polish Agri-Food Trade, Małgorzata Bułkowska
International Journal of Business and Technology
The embargo introduced in August 2014 by Russia on the food products imported from the European Union caused a strong decline in sales of food from Poland in this country. The aim of the article is to analyse the current trends and prospects of development of Polish agrifood trade with the EU and non-EU countries in 2013-2016. A special attention was paid on changes in geographical structure and the level of diversification of Polish food exports as a result of the export restriction. The analysis shows that the situation on the Russian market influenced the growth of the food exports …
Determinants Of Trade In Value Added: The Case Of The Central And Eastern European Countries, Łukasz Ambroziak
Determinants Of Trade In Value Added: The Case Of The Central And Eastern European Countries, Łukasz Ambroziak
International Journal of Business and Technology
The aim of the paper is to investigate determinants of trade in value added of the CEECs (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) in the period 2000–2014. For this purpose, it uses a generalised gravity model based on panel data. The main independent variables (GDP of trading countries and the distance between them) have the same direction of impact on both value added exports/imports and gross exports/imports. Only the values of coefficients differ. The greatest difference concerns the geographical distance. It results from indirect value added trade.
The Evolution Of Crm From The Perspective Of An Emerging Country: Past, Present And Future, Taşkın Dirsehan
The Evolution Of Crm From The Perspective Of An Emerging Country: Past, Present And Future, Taşkın Dirsehan
International Journal of Business and Technology
From traditional groceries to mobile commerce, marketing has passed through several ages in its history, and so has the relationship between the seller and the customer. The CRM evolution process differs according to the history of different countries. This study offers a perspective on CRM from an emerging country, Turkey, and will demonstrate the stages of customer relationship management (CRM) in that country. In Turkey’s collective culture in the 80s, grocery stores existed with a strong relationship between the seller and the store. The owner was called “uncle grocery” and usually came from the same quarter as the customers. In …

An Emergent Theory Of Executive Leadership Selection: Leveraging Grounded Theory To Study The U.S. Military's Special Forces Assessment And Selection Process, Darryl J. Lavender
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This research documents the assessment and selection process used by the U.S. Military’s Special Forces for over 70 years using Grounded Theory Methodology. Three independent studies were used to document the Special Forces process of selection. Through comparative reanalysis of each study’s data a model emerged explaining the Special Forces phenomena of assessment and selection.
Analysis was conducted in three phases using open, axial, and selective coding which allowed for the identification of a smaller set of themes which categorized the process of selection. The final step involved the development of two analytical matrices explaining the central theme of selection …

Option Strangles: An Analysis Of Selling Equity Insurance, Clemens Kownatzki, Hisam Sabouni
Option Strangles: An Analysis Of Selling Equity Insurance, Clemens Kownatzki, Hisam Sabouni
Graziadio Working Paper Series
Our results suggest, selling SPY strangles are generally profitable across a variety of widths. However, the payoff profile of a short option strangle exposes the contract seller to a potential for unlimited losses. Our evidence on maximum drawdowns indicates that losses on some positions can be the equivalent of the profits gained on approximately forty prior positions. This payoff profile has given rise to the metaphor of selling option contracts as the equivalent of “picking up nickels in front of a steam roller.” The goal of our paper is to analyze the full return characteristics of option strangles and to …

Analyzing The Impact Of Workers’ Remittances On Household Consumption In Latin American And Caribbean Countries, Harri Ramcharran
Analyzing The Impact Of Workers’ Remittances On Household Consumption In Latin American And Caribbean Countries, Harri Ramcharran
2019 Faculty Bibliography
Increasing remittance flows to developing countries continue to stimulate analytical research. We apply a model, based on the "permanent income hypothesis", to estimate the impact of remittances on consumption in eleven Latin American and Caribbean countries for the period of 2003–2013. The independent variables are: (a) real per capita national income (exclusive of remittances), the measure of "permanent income", (b) remittances, the measure of "transitory income", and (c) real interest rate, the indicator of intertemporal consumption substitution. The coefficient of remittances measures the consumption-augmentation and saving effects, while the correlation between remittances and per capita income indicates the consumption-smoothing effects. …
Association Between Perceived Physical Activity And Cognitive Function In Older Adults, Paul D. Loprinzi, Emily Frith
Association Between Perceived Physical Activity And Cognitive Function In Older Adults, Paul D. Loprinzi, Emily Frith
Faculty and Student Publications
© The Author(s) 2018. There is irrefutable evidence that regular participation in physical activity is favorably associated with numerous positive health outcomes, including cognitive function. Emerging work suggests that perceived physical activity, independent of actual physical activity behavior, is inversely associated with mortality risk. In this study, we evaluate whether perceived physical activity, independent of actual physical activity, is associated with cognitive function, a robust indicator of mortality risk. Data from the cross-sectional 1999–2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were employed (N = 2352; 60+ years of age). Actual physical activity was assessed via a validated survey. Perceived physical …
