Maximizing The Return On Investment For College Marching Bands, Brandon S. Alt

This report outlines the findings from a study conducted of the income and budgets of college marching bands for the 2017-2018 academic year. The study was conducted with members of the College Band Directors National Association using their Athletic Band listserv. Participants were asked questions about their marching band’s income, expenditures, use of development funds, and their school and band’s demographics. The data is then analyzed to highlight trends within the data, and to generate recommendations for how marching bands can improve their budgets. Study limitations are also discussed.

Highway 61: Good Roads, Great Migrations, And Delta Blues, Samuel Willcoxon

This thesis analyzes the social and racial factors that contributed to the cultural significance of U.S. Highway 61. First, I explore the background of road building and transportation in the United States. Next I detail the history of convict labor in the South, from convict leasing to convict labor on roads as a result of the Good Roads Movement. Third, I describe how economic and social conditions contributed to the out-migration of southerners during the twentieth century. Lastly, I analyze how social conditions spawned the Mississippi Delta blues, and how Highway 61 became a symbol of opportunity for blues musicians.

This study explores the history behind Hollywood’s relationship with the depiction of Asians and Asian Americans in film. Through tracking examples of Hollywood’s use of yellowface and whitewashing in movies from the 1920s into modern day, the study explores the historical and financial reasons behind controversial casting decisions, and how they affect the perceived image of Asians in America. The purpose of this research paper is to analyze how and to what extent parental expectations, peer pressure, and levels of self-identity affect the career outcomes Asian Americans in their pursuit of music careers. This research aims to uncover personality traits that affect type II diabetics’ intentions to use wearable technologies. Survey data of 321 responses were used for data analysis to measure results. Data was analyzed using SPSS software to determine the effects of individual traits on current usage and purchase intentions of wearable technologies explored in the research. The individual traits studied were involvement, impulsivity, and self-consciousness. Smartwatches, smart socks, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitors were the wearables studied in this research. Results found that involvement has an impact on future purchase intentions of wearable technologies. However, impulsivity has partial statistical …
