Strive To Survive: The Redbox Example, Jake N. Conlin

Marriott Student Review

As technology continues to progress, companies can either adapt with technology or die. Advancements in technology should be used to better satisfy consumers. Companies that refuse to update their technology will not be able to survive in the future. Each company must make the most of its current technology, utilize new technology, and notify its customers of changes in its use of technology. Redbox finds itself at the crossroads of adapting or dying. Redbox can apply these three steps by milking its existing disc rental market, making the move to streaming, and marketing the new streaming service to consumers.

Exploring The Disconnects Between Cpa Firms And Millennials As It Relates To Tax Preparation, Dustin Micah Grant

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Small Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firms are facing a demographic market shift as baby boomers leave the workforce and are replaced by millennials. Today, small CPA firms rely on tax services from baby boomers and older clients for the majority of revenue, but millennials now represent the largest percentage of the workforce. This growing disconnect suggests a potential issue for small CPA firms. The following research explores the issues and opinions of millennial-aged tax filers and partners in small CPA firms on compiling and filing individual federal income tax returns in the United States.

Semi-structured interviews were conducted with both …

Are You Sugarcoating Your Feedback Without Realizing It?, Michael Schaerer, Roderick I. Swaab

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Managers tend to inflate the feedback they give to their direct reports, particularly when giving bad news. And by presenting subpar performance more positively than they should, managers make it impossible for employees to learn, damaging their careers and, often, the company.

Short- And Medium-Term Car Registration Forecasting Based On Selected Macro And Socio-Economic Indicators In European Countries, Lubor Homolka, Vu Minh Ngo, Drahomíra Pavelková, Bach Tuan Le, Bruce Dehning

Accounting Faculty Articles and Research

The automotive industry plays a key role in the European economy. In this paper, we determine which macro and socio-economic indicators have significant predictive power on car registrations - a proxy to automotive sector performance - across European countries. Contrary to the current literature which mainly focuses on long-term forecasting, we built our models on the highly seasonal monthly data of a medium-term period to make short-term forecasts. Our approach utilises predictors identified by the literature review. Presented models are built on the Vector Autoregressive models and are accompanied by formal tests, such as the Granger causality test. We have …

A Dsge Model For The Slovenian Economy: Model Estimates And Application, Andrej Kuštrin Oct 2019

A Dsge Model For The Slovenian Economy: Model Estimates And Application, Andrej Kuštrin

Economic and Business Review

The paper presents the estimation of a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model for the Slovenian economy and its applications. The model, which is built in the tradition of New Keynesian models, closely follows the structure of the model developed by Adolfson et al. (2007) and Masten (2010). We estimate the model using a Bayesian method on quarterly Slovenian macroeconomic data covering the period 1995-2014. Beyond evaluating the properties of the estimated model, we discuss the role of various shocks in explaining macroeconomic fluctuations in the Slovenian economy to illustrate the model’s potential in structural business cycle analysis.

Are Middle Managers’ Cost Decisions Sticky? Evidence From The Field, Byunghoon Jin, John C. Cary Oct 2019

Are Middle Managers’ Cost Decisions Sticky? Evidence From The Field, Byunghoon Jin, John C. Cary

Economic and Business Review

Anderson, Banker, and Janakiraman (2003) show that costs are “sticky” (i.e., costs change relatively less when sales decrease than when sales increase) because managers are reluctant to cut resources when sales decrease. We predict that cost behavior at the middle management level is sticky also when the magnitude of sales increase is sufficiently large, considering that middle managers have more limited ability in adding resources and are more risk averse. Using a survey instrument and interviews, we find evidence that middle managers’ cost decisions are sticky at both ends. Our findings are supported by empirical evidence based on segment-level data.
