The goal of this exploratory study is to investigate ways in which whether the phenomena called the ‘bro culture’ may influence on women in the information technology (IT) workforce. It specifically seeks to determine whether bro culture has an impact on why women in IT move from one IT company to another; leave IT for a non-technical field; or leave the workforce entirely.

Although there is a plethora of studies on why women leave positions in IT, less understood is the impact and influence of bro culture on the decision.

Recent advancements in smartwatch technology have led to several applications in continuous fitness and health monitoring. Considering the benefits of smartwatches, their low level of usage for fitness and health monitoring purposes, and the limited understanding of determinants of their usage, this study advances the body of knowledge by developing an innovative and comprehensive research model that integrates the extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) with perceived vulnerability and perceived severity as moderators. This Reflection Toolkit, compiled by the faculty inquiry group (FIG), includes classroom strategies for integrating reflection into one's existing syllabi. The lesson plans highlight how to encourage effective student reflections.The toolkit includes best practices to facilitate reflection in classes across the disciplines in the context of a variety of student-centered activities (including group-work, online learning, and interactive modules).

Traffic Density On Corridors Subject To Incidents: Models For Long-Term Congestion Management, Pedro Cesar Lopes Gerum, Andrew Reed Benton, Melike Baykal-Gürsoy

The purpose of this research is to provide a faster and more efficient method to determine traffic density behavior for long-term congestion management using minimal statistical information. Applications include road work, road improvements, and route choice. To this end, this paper adapts and generalizes two analytical models (for non-peak and peak hours) for the probability mass function of traffic density for a major highway. It then validates the model against real data. The studied corridor has a total of 36 sensors, 18 in each direction, and the traffic experiences randomly occurring service deterioration due to accidents and inclement weather such …

The higher the engagement, the higher the chance of brands committing mistakes. This paper examines the relation between a firm’s capacity to access external capital and its innovation among SMEs in Vietnam. We find that SMEs with high debt ratio tend to be more innovative. After controlling for several firm characteristics, long term debt remains significantly positively correlated with innovation. We further show that both bank loans and loans from family and friends help these firms innovate, especially in developing new products and/or technology. Overall, our paper suggests that external financing plays an important role in enhancing innovation in small and medium enterprises.

We have all seen the reports on the news about issues related to IV rooms and IV room compounding. Many health-system pharmacies have implemented, or are considering some form of intravenous (IV) automation and/ or compounding system in their clean rooms to reduce pharmacy errors and improve accuracy, productivity, and workflow. Manufacturers tout that automated systems, used appropriately, aid in reducing errors from reaching patients. Additionally, IV admixture automation is one of the most recent areas where technology has been added to pharmacy workflow.

The author shows the main characteristics of hedge funds and analyzes persistence of rates of return generated by them. The aim of the paper is to check if there exists any persistence of rates of return and if so, if there are any differences in different periods of time. The paper proves that the existence of rates of return persistence decreases together with the extension of the time horizon. It suggests that long-term investing in hedge funds is linked to high risk levels. One reason is that their rates of return are not described by normal distribution features. The second …

The study of Disaster Relief has received increasing attention for the better part of 20 years, and particularly in the wake of high-visibility storms like Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, there is little need to provide justification for the field as an area of interest. This presentation will summarize an ongoing effort to study one particular aspect of Disaster Relief, namely last-mile distribution in the face of uncertain supply.
