Food safety remains a major issue to many consumers. Previous studies examining the economic impact of food safety recalls have focused on Class I recalls. Antibiotic residue in meat products, a Class II recall, has increased in consumer importance yet little is known about how much research and development expenditure should be allocated to reduce antibiotic residue pre- and post-harvest. This study compares demand elasticities and the decrease in willingness to pay in response to either an E. coli (Class I) or antibiotic residue (Class II) recall. We examine how competition among crop insurance agents affects coverage choice in the federal crop insurance program. Agents may influence producers’ insurance decisions to maximize their total compensation. We develop a theoretical model of producer–agent interaction to examine how loss potential, agent compensation mechanisms, and market competition affect the coverage level selected. Using crop insurance unit-level datasets from five states, we find evidence that agent market concentration and agents’ market share matter in the insurance coverage decisions of producers but that the economic significance of the influence is relatively small. Claims of excessive top executive team compensation irrespective of company performance resulted in a law allowing shareholders to approve compensation. The approval, called say-on-pay, was supposed to help align compensation with performance. Since say-on-pay was implemented in 2011, little has been done to test its efficacy. This study looks at the potential efficacy of say-on-pay by looking for evidence that compensation aligns with performance six years after say-on-pay was first implemented. Say-on-pay may have had its intended effect if, by 2017, compensation aligns with performance. Compensation is measured as all forms of pay given to the top five executives of …

Since its inception in the late 1970s, neoliberal academia has increasingly relied in under-paid contingent faculty to carry its teaching workload. During this same time, neoliberal academia began to take up ‘diversity’ as a way to sell its brand. This dissertation stands at the crux between diversity branding and the exploitation of contingent faculty. Specifically, I explore how teaching General Education diversity courses through precarity impacts contingent faculty affectively and emotionally. We investigate the stochastic integrated inventory model wherein the buyer's lead time demand follows the mixture of normal distributions. Due to the high acquisition cost of land, we assume that buyer's maximum permissible storage space is limited and therefore adds a space constraint to the respective inventory system. Besides, it is assumed that the manufacturing process is imperfect and produces defective units, and hence each lot received by the buyer contains percentage defectives. This chapter reassesses the process of how store customers become loyal to their stores; what are the core subprocesses generating customer store loyalty, and what contributing moderators enrich the final outcome. A new empirical research is designed to identify and test a parsimonious model of core relationships and moderators. The result is an explanation chain that incorporates relational variables, trust, and commitment to the traditional transactional one, customer satisfaction, and the moderating factors of the relational variables.
