This paper examines whether consumer sentiment predicts the excess returns of the aggregate market and nine industries from the Indonesia equity market. We discover evidence of predictability for three industries; however, the magnitude of predictability are heterogeneous. Some sectors are predictable during expansions, whereas others are only predictable during recessions. There is no evidence of the reversal of the impact of consumer sentiment on stock returns. We conduct several robustness tests that include (i) estimating a predictive regression model with a feasible quasi-generalized least squares–based estimator and (ii) accounting for …

JOHNSON CITY (April 3, 2020) – The South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, sponsored by Mary B. Martin School of the Arts at East Tennessee State University, will present free online virtual screenings of four films from the tour series’ “Purple Circuit.”

One film will be screened online every Monday in April at 7:30 p.m., and each will be followed by a real-time online conversation with the filmmaker or filmmakers. The link to each screening will be provided on the Martin School of the Arts website, www.etsu.edu/cas/martin/.

JOHNSON CITY – (April 3, 2020) Dr. Pamela Evanshen from East Tennessee State University is the co-author of “Room to Learn:  Elementary Classrooms Designed for Interactive Explorations,” published by Gryphon House. Her co-author is Dr. Janet Faulk, a retired faculty member from Milligan College.

The book helps early childhood teachers to focus on how the arrangement of classrooms can create learning opportunities that are student-centered, welcoming and developmentally appropriate and promote positive learning experiences.

JOHNSON CITY (April 3, 2020) – Campaigning has looked different this year, with the East Tennessee State University campus closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the university’s Student Government Association elections will be held as scheduled, with online voting to take place Wednesday and Thursday, April 8-9.

Virtual campaigning has been going on for the last few days, and students are encouraged to visit https://www.etsu.edu/sga/sgaelection.php for information about the election from SGA and candidate questionnaires from the East Tennessean, ETSU’s student newspaper. Background: This study examined the motor unit (MU) control strategies for non-fatiguing isometric elbow flexion tasks at 40% and 70% maximal voluntary isometric contraction. Methods: Nineteen healthy individuals performed two submaximal tasks with similar torque levels: contracting against an immovable object (force task), and maintaining the elbow joint angle against an external load (position task). Surface electromyographic (EMG) signals were collected from the agonist and antagonist muscles. The signals from the agonist were decomposed into individual action potential trains. Not only do these fossils include a variety of ancient animals like rhinos, mastodons and pandas, they also include a forest’s worth of ancient plants. And that list of plants is now a bit longer thanks to a pair of recent studies identifying two extinct Gray Fossil Site plant species that are entirely new to science.

JOHNSON CITY (April 2, 2020) — During a called meeting of East Tennessee State University’s Board of Trustees Finance and Administration Committee on Wednesday, a motion was passed to not increase tuition and mandatory fees for the 2020-21 academic year contingent on the approval of the Governor’s budget. The ETSU Board of Trustees will vote on the recommendation at its quarterly meeting on April 24.

The vast majority of the U.S. workforce (80%) says they would like to telework at least part-time, according to research by Global Workplace Analytics. Although not all jobs are conducive to telework, the Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) is working with the QIC-WD to design, implement, and research the impacts of telework as a strategy to support and retain the child welfare workforce. Prior studies show that product recalls negatively affect the recalling firm’s sales, consumer-based brand equity, and firm value.
