Araminta Ray’s path to East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine took a 2,190.9-mile detour that required some of the same tools she has used as a medical student – resilience, perspective, and community.

Ray was accepted to Quillen in 2018.

“I don’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t want to become a doctor,” Ray said. “But I’ve also known I was going to hike the Appalachian Trail about as long as I’ve known I was going to be a doctor. It’s been a part of me and one of my lifelong goals for years.”

The graduation ceremony for ETSU Family Medicine Johnson City was held on Friday, June 19, 2020.

Dr. Brian Earley, Program Director, opened the ceremony and introduced Dr. Reid Blackwelder, Department Chair, to offer sentiments to the graduates. Graduates were later recognized with special video presentations from Dr. Wilsie Bishop, Vice President for Academics and Interim Provost, and Dr. William Block, Vice President for Clinical Affairs and Dean of Quillen College of Medicine.

Dr. Amit Patel and Dr. Benjamin Whitfield were recognized for serving as Chief Residents.

Special awards were presented, followed by the awarding of diplomas to the residency graduates. …

The elevated nature and intentional design of fine dining set it apart from the normalcy of eating food and create an environment where guests are valued. The purpose of this study was to compare the fine-dining experience design practices of selected Michelin star restaurants. Restaurants Azurmendi and Per Se were selected for examination in this study. Both restaurants’ Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews were analyzed using an instrument developed by the researcher. 本研究報告對於港資製造業這個領域的嶄新研究貢獻，主要歸結為以下幾個類別：

1. 以多項第一手數據表明，並讓香港特區政府重新認識到港資製造業在「延外發展」模式經營下對香港整體經濟佔有非常重要帶動作用、貢獻和地位；
2. 本報告通過挖掘包括國家工商總局在內的大數據方式，從而得出近年包括大灣區以至不同九個市在內的港資製造業企業數目、從業人員數目、註冊資本、營業利潤等的具體數字和變動情況；由於工商總局的註冊或登記數字的個案數比統計局的抽樣為主的統計數字更為具體，因而相關數字能夠更仔細的反映出港資製造業在大灣區內的經營情況，較具有參考價值；
3. 本報告以大數據結合問卷調查、深入訪談等方式交叉分析，互補有無，能夠發現更多港資製造業企業對大灣區的經濟貢獻具體情況，有助外界尤其是特區政府和內地相關部委了解到港資企業特別是港資製造業對整個大灣區經濟的重要性，尤其港資製造業如何對專業服務業產生帶動作用，有助社會各界重新關注振興製造業和實現製造業轉型升級的重要性，從而推出更為切合實際的具體振興方案；
4. 通過對不同企業和行業的深入訪談，可以令大家更為仔細了解港資製造業目前的經營情況、優勢所在和面對的挑戰，有助中小港資製造業企業借鑑相關經驗，從而發展壯大；
5. 這份報告的對策建議部份，內容主要針對包括內地政府、香港特區政府，以及港資製造業企業三大部分，當中具代表性和可操作性的建議，如能獲得有關方面加以關注，對促進港資製造業企業以至整個大灣區的製造業發展均有裨益。有助業界尤其兩地政府知道發展壯大港資製造業事關回應全球產業升級大趨勢，需要讓香港和灣區九市、以至整個廣東和全國的大格局在這大趨勢中去分析和綜合規劃。

JOHNSON CITY – Alumni of East Tennessee State University, current students curious about what the university was like in yesteryear, and other interested folks can now access several years’ worth of yearbooks thanks to the Archives of Appalachia in ETSU’s Center for Appalachian Studies and Services.

The Archives is in the ongoing process of digitizing all of the university’s yearbooks and making them available online.

ETSU’s yearbook was called “Old Hickory” during its first 10 years of publication, which began in 1919 after the university’s founding in 1911 as East Tennessee State Normal School. The name changed to “The Chalkline” …

Privacy threats in a social media-enabled application (app) can originate from either the institution or other app users. Although privacy in social media is well studied, the role of social (peer) privacy concerns is largely unknown and most privacy studies on mobile apps focus on initial adoption and ignore long-term behavioral outcomes. Drawing on the privacy calculus theory, this study examines the impact of both institutional and social privacy concerns on long-term user engagement with social media-enabled apps. We examine the impact of China’s anti-corruption campaign on firm-level financial reporting quality (FRQ). As an important component of the anti-corruption campaign, in October 2013, “Rule 18” was issued to prohibit party and government officials from serving as directors for publicly listed firms. The regulation led to a large number of official directors resigning from their roles as directors involuntarily. As such, Rule 18 has effectively weakened, if not fullydiscontinued, the political connections of the firms that previously hired officials as directors. How Much Does Imprecision In Accounting Measurement Enhance Value?, Ying Liang

Theory on real effects suggests that more precise accounting does not necessarily improve investment efficiency. However, with investment efficiency mostly unobservable, empirical assessment of the theory is rare. This paper develops an empirical framework based on Kanodia et al. (2005) to structurally estimate the effect of imprecision in accounting measurement on investment efficiency. My estimates suggest that imprecision in accounting measurement has mitigated over-investment in capital expenditures and R&D by 28.6% and 4.9%, respectively. On average, firms still over-invest relative to the first-best full-information benchmark. In counterfactual analyses, my estimates suggest that the optimal investment efficiency could be achieved by …

This thesis explores how local government support for arts and culture varies across 24 American cities. It has proven to be challenging for researchers to accurately measure municipal arts support. Research on cultural policy has also often focused on the federal level, despite total city expenditures far exceeding national or state government support. This thesis attempts to take an accurate pulse of city expenditures in 2017 and correlates those spending levels to the variation in city ownership of arts facilities. Previous research on workload has primarily approached work underload as unidimensional focusing on either repetitive monotonous tasks or the employee’s perception of their current workload. Researchers have focused on work related outcomes, such as job engagement and organizational commitment, as consequences of those perceptions. Subtle sexism is a pervasive problem for working women due to the normative, unequal and ambiguous treatment they experience. The ambiguous nature further exacerbates the experience because women are unsure where to place causal attribution and often times are left blaming themselves. Similarly, internalized sexism is rooted in the same limiting beliefs of traditional female stereotypes as subtle sexism. Both experiences and internalized sexism hinder working women’s cognitive internal attributions and their self-perceptions of value and competence.
