Disposal of municipal solid wastes (MSW) has recently become a major problem in Lebanon as finding appropriate landfill is becoming more challenging than ever. Incineration is a technique currently used to reduce the volume of MSW generated. The output of this treatment is a residue well known as Municipal Solid Waste Incineration bottom and fly ash. This study is focused on the mortar containing Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Bottom Ash (MSWI-BA) as partial replacement of sand. In reinforced concrete design, the concrete in the tensile zone is assumed to be ineffective and increase the dead load of the structural elements. In order to reduce the self-weight, this paper examines the structural behavior of reinforced concrete beams containing lightweight concrete in the tensile region and normal weight concrete in the rest of the beam. The lightweight concrete was made from waste polystyrene. Four reinforced concrete beams were prepared with different depth of lightweight concrete. The control beam B1 consists of normal concrete. I extend the classical risk vulnerability definition proposed by Gollier and Pratt (1996) and suggest a new definition namely risk invulnerability, which is to say a desirable background risk that has a positive mean value exceeding the precautionary saving premium makes a decision maker less risk averse with respect to other independent risk. While the value function used in Milne and Robertson (1996) is comparable to the von Neumann Morgenstern utility function used in risk invulnerability, I follow the literature and show that a corporate under stochastic wealth and threat of liquidation is risk invulnerable when the wealth level of …

Body condition scores (BCS) measure a cow’s fat reserves and is important for management and research. Manual BCS assessment is subjective, time-consuming, and requires trained personnel. The BodyMat F (BMF, Ingenera SA, Cureglia, Switzerland) is an automated body condition scoring system using a 3D sensor to estimate BCS. This study assesses the BMF. One hundred and three Holstein Friesian cows were assessed by the BMF and two assessors throughout a lactation. The BMF output is in the 0–5 scale commonly used in France. We develop and report the first equation to convert these scores to the 1–5 scale used by …

JOHNSON CITY (June 26, 2020) – The Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) at East Tennessee State University has announced a partnership with Blackburn, Childers and Steagall, CPAs to provide free assistance with loan forgiveness applications for the Payroll Protection Program (PPP).

Established by the CARES Act, the PPP provides assistance for small businesses to pay up to eight weeks of payroll costs and benefits. Funds can also be used to pay interest on mortgages, rent and utilities. The program is implemented by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) with support from the Department of the Treasury.

Shiller (2017) uses the term “narrative economics” to describe a new economic subfield that studies how stories people tell each other affect economic fluctuations. This thesis considers the economic and political role of narratives in newspapers and social media. It consists of three chapters. Chapter 2 examines how information credibility affects the asset pricing of stocks and cryptocurrencies under news shocks. Two emotions that employees often experience in the workplace are schadenfreude (a positive reaction to others’ misfortune) and freudenschade (a negative reaction to others’ good fortune). Results of an ANOVA indicate that participants asked to imagine that they are employees were more likely to experience schadenfreude toward a hypothetical coworker if that coworker were arrogant, underperforming, rude, or deceptive. They were more likely to experience freudenschade toward a target when there was an issue involving justice. Results of an ANCOVA illustrated a negative relationship between the experience of schadenfreude and the personality variable Just-World Beliefs, but no association was found …
