JOHNSON CITY – (Oct 20, 2020) During the Medieval period, morality plays were written and performed to provide moral lessons with the goal of teaching people how to live better lives.  Among the most famous of the plays was “Everyman,” published in 1530 originally under the title of “The Summoning of Every Man.”

Shipment Sizing For Autonomous Trucks Of Road Freight, Chun-Miin (Jimmy) Chen, Yajun Lu

Unprecedented endeavors have been made to take autonomous trucks to the open road. This study aims to provide relevant information on autonomous truck technology and to help logistics managers gain insight into assessing optimal shipment sizes for autonomous trucks. Empirical data of estimated autonomous truck costs is collected to help revise classic, conceptual models of assessing optimal shipment sizes. Numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate the optimal shipment size when varying the autonomous truck technology cost and transportation lead time reduction. Past research rooted in the Behavioral Theory of the Firm has extensively examined the impact of performance feedback on organizational change and risk taking, finding robust effects that performance shortfalls enhance the risk taking of firms. We argue that the strength of this effect is likely to be contingent on the attributes of the firm’s top management team. To enhance our understanding of which firms are more likely to be sensitive to performance cues, we draw on the Upper Echelon Theory to theorize that key structural attributes of the top management team—tenure and gender diversity, size, and pay disparity—affect how …

Replacement heifer rearing is critical for the future of dairy operations, to improve genetic merit and maintain herd size. A myriad of options exist on how to manage, feed, and ultimately raise replacement heifers. Pasture is perceived to offer optimal welfare and an economical housing system for replacement animals, but confinement systems are gaining popularity. This study investigates the costs associated with replacement heifer management decisions from birth to calving, considering the factors of housing systems, labor, feed, and health. Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to develop an additional perspective on when and why intrinsic motivation predicts employee engagement by presenting a contextual boundary of psychological detachment in relation to the relationship between intrinsic motivation, employee creativity and employee engagement of workers.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from 288 full-time Japanese workers using an online survey. The study used a bootstrap method (Preacher and Hayes, 2008) to test mediation, and a Hayes method (2013) to test moderation and a first-stage moderated mediation model.

Employee creativity mediated the relationship between intrinsic motivation and employee engagement, and the relationship between …

With a growing number of services provided at or to a customer’s home, the familiarity of the service provider, or driver, with the customer’s location is increasingly important. One prominent example is retail distribution, where familiarity with the delivery location can save the driver time. In contrast to other kinds of familiarity (e.g., tasks, customer needs) that continually increase with a larger number of repetitions, location familiarity is primarily established with a driver’s first visit. A group of professionals with expertise across sport architecture, design, athletic administration, and academia convened as a response to the COVID-19 global pandemic to consider resultant impacts of the pandemic on sport. The group’s formation, collaboration, and corresponding growth may offer insights to colleagues across sport who may wish to establish future partnerships across industry and academia. In particular, three aspects of the group’s dynamic–knowledge diversity, time unboundedness, and psychological safety–have been valuable in their collaborative process, which has catalyzed group member engagement and enhanced its outputs.
