There is gender inequality at the equity partner level in public accounting firms. The number of female partners is much lower than male partners. This paper examines the three main reasons for this discrepancy. The reasons are the difficulty in finding an appropriate work-life balance, good formal and informal mentors, and the extra financial risk associated with being an equity partner. Next, comparisons to law firms and educators are made examining the reasons for any gender inequality in those industries. Finally, proposed solutions to the three main reasons for the gender inequality in public accounting are explored.

This article examines the relation between option trading volume and real estate investment trust (REIT) market performance. Specifically, we find that option volume increases are followed by decreases in returns. Furthermore, the portion of option volume that is orthogonal to REIT characteristics drives the observed return predictability relation, thereby suggesting that the return predictability of option trading is (at least partially) attributable to information-based explanations. Finally, consistent with informed traders favoring option market activities due to short-sale costs and/or constraints, we find option based return predictability is more evident within REITs than non-REITs, even though firms within this industry are …

JOHNSON CITY – The East Tennessee State University Department of Art and Design and the Reece Museum present the “Spring 2021 BFA Senior Exhibition” now through April 30 featuring nine Bachelor of Fine Arts students.

The ETSU Department of Art and Design offers both Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in studio art and graphic design. Studio arts seniors are William Arrowood, Camila Edye, Loki Gardner, Lindsey Goddard, and Jess Uhl. Seniors in graphic design are Hank Collie, Haley McBrayer, Laura Rogers, and Emilee Storie. JOHNSON CITY – The George L. Carter Railroad Museum, located in the Campus Center Building of East Tennessee State University, will recall the era of diesel-powered railroading this Saturday, April 24.

With COVID-19 safety protocols in place, visitors will be welcomed to “Diesel Daze,” a day of internal-combustion trains dating from 1935 through 1970. Steam trains will be in operation on exhibits devoted to older reference points, but “usurpers to the throne” of horsepower will be on the HO and N scale displays.

The author of this article examines current judicial precedent pertaining to human rights violations perpetrated in the supply chains of American companies. The author argues that existing legislation is insufficient to prevent firms from profiting from forced labor. The author demonstrates the effect of forced labor upon the competitive landscape and illustrates the damage done to ethical companies forced to compete with low-priced competitors.
