This thesis sought to discover if there is a significant causal relationship between the amount of ARRA funding given to a U.S. state and its increase of broadband availability/adoption rates between 2010 (when all ARRA projects were announced), 2013, and 2016 (after all projects were completed). After running various regressions, I found that there …

Seductive Details In Training, Megan Paul

Umbrella Summaries

What are seductive details?

In a learning environment, seductive details are interesting but unimportant details that are not necessary to achieve the instructional objective (Garner et al., 1989). The information may be tangentially related to the topic but is not relevant to the main teaching goal. Such details are often included for the purpose of making the topic more interesting and engaging. There are many potential types of seductive details; they can be visual, verbal, or aural—static or dynamic images (e.g., illustrations, photos, animations), written or spoken words (e.g., text, narration), or sounds (e.g., music; Sundararajan & Adesope, 2020).

The following is a message from ETSU leaders to students, faculty and staff on April 20, 2021.

Dear ETSU Community,

The guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin murder trial announced earlier today brings with it a flood of emotions for many in our community. Though some may find relief in the idea that justice has been served, the wounds our nation has experienced as a result of centuries of racial and social inequalities will not be healed through the decisions of a single jury or the events of a single day.

George Floyd’s murder has heightened our collective awareness of …

Media Backlog Management Application, Luke Hebert Apr 2021

Media Backlog Management Application, Luke Hebert

To do this, the user provides the amount of time they want to spend watching either a show or movie and fills in other optional criteria, such as genre, director, actors, and more. From there, the app returns recommendations based on the search criteria. The backlog of items is provided by the user via a simple search-by-title functionality. This search queries IMDb, a website dedicated to aggregating information about film, TV series, and other visual media, and returns …

Mindstate: A Capstone Project, Kyle Petronio Apr 2021

Mindstate: A Capstone Project, Kyle Petronio

Honors Theses

Objectives For four years, I have been trying to release music under the moniker of Rookie Plenty. Aside from a few songs on Bandcamp, my releases have been few and far between. In addition to releasing music on streaming platforms, MindState: A Capstone Project is an experiment in exploring genre fluidity. Many mainstream musical projects released in the twenty-first century are often genre constrained and demonstrate minimal sonic deviation between songs. This extended-play album is an attempt to exemplify a mastery of genre conventions while branching outward into new musical territory.

Methods To demonstrate an understanding of genres, I focused …
