Research Question/Issue

Public and academic debates typically portray US CEOs as exceptionally well paid. Yet, evidence on the existence and magnitude of a US CEO pay premium is mixed and dated. This study uses an expanded, longitudinal dataset to identify whether such a pay premium exists and explores potential differences across countries, time, and governance and institutional contexts.

Research Findings/Insights

Using a dataset of over 42,000 firm-year observations from 34 countries during 2001–2018, we document a persistent but heterogeneous US CEO pay premium. Compared with non-US peers, US CEOs receive 23% more total pay and 20% more equity-based compensation, on …

This study explores the effects of adopting an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile money system (AI-MMS) on supply chain operations among small and medium-sized enter-prises (SMEs) in the Global South. The authors developed a new version of Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation model (DoI) that considers the geopolitical context and environmental fac-tors, including regulatory framework, trust, risk and complexity, to help understand how AI-MMS can enhance transactional efficiency in SMEs and bridge the financial inclusion gap. This study examines how artificial intelligence integration, transformational leadership, and sustainability practices collectively influence organizational resilience and performance in crisis-affected Arab economies, with a focus on Lebanese organizations navigating compound disruptions. Using a convergent mixed-methods design, quantitative data were collected from 487 managers and employees across Lebanese organizations and comparative international samples in the education, finance, NGO, and tourism sectors, complemented by 32 semi-structured interviews. Results demonstrate that AI integration, transformational leadership, and sustainability practices significantly enhance organizational resilience and performance, with emotional intelligence and affective commitment serving as critical mediators. ABSTRACT

Content creators face significant challenges in maintaining audience engagement and social relevance amidst dynamic platform algorithms. This study analyzes YouTuber Asian Survivor's personal branding strategy in building authenticity, engagement, and audience donation motivation using a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative analysis employed t-tests and binary logistic regression on 101 videos, while qualitative analysis was conducted through in-depth interviews and observation. Results indicate that neither vulnerable nor inspiring narrative types significantly differentiate engagement levels; however, videos that successfully raised donations exhibited significantly higher engagement rates. Regression analysis proved that an increase in engagement rate raises donation probability by 2.5 times. Qualitative findings …

Drawing on stakeholder theory, the research investigates whether ESG activities contribute positively to firm performance, and how this relationship varies with firm size and during crisis periods. The sample consists of Chinese A-share firms from 2019 to 2023, a period that includes the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. Applying Total Quality Management And Auditor Size Theories To Audit Quality: Evidence From Tanzanian Auditing Firms, Freddy Chaula, Henry Zeno Chalu, Paul Ambege

Amid mixed global findings on the determinants of audit quality, particularly in emerging markets, the role of engagement team competence and audit firm size remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between engagement team competence, audit firm size, and audit quality in Tanzanian auditing firms. The hypotheses were tested using PLS-SEM based on data obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 147 Tanzanian audit partners. Audit firm size (β = 0.309, p < 0.01) and engagement team competence (β = 0.567, p < 0.01) were found to have significant positive effects on audit quality. These results suggest that audit quality is significantly enhanced by audit firm size and engagement team competence, thus supporting total quality management and auditor size theories. These findings highlight the need for regulators to strengthen auditor competence and to support the growth of small auditing firms, thereby enhancing their capacity, resources, and the overall audit quality. For auditing firms, the findings underscore the need to develop engagement team competence through initiatives such as professional training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing programs. Additionally, firms should expand their capacity to strengthen audit quality. While focused on the Tanzanian context, the findings offer broader insights for improving audit quality in developing economies.

Despite growing interest in vegan products, research examining the motivations, underlying psychological processes, and boundary conditions that drive consumer preference for vegan products remains limited. Drawing on theories of temporal self and appraisal theory, we find that an immediate message appeal (e.g., animal welfare), as compared to a future outcome message appeal (e.g., environmental benefits), leads to higher preference for vegan products. Anticipated consumption pride, but not guilt, mediates this relationship, highlighting the role of positive emotions in shaping ethical behavior. This paper presents an exploratory case study detailed as a pedagogical experience report on integrating adversarial Large Language Model (LLM) scenarios into a graduate cybersecurity curriculum. In addition to prompt injection, sophisticated techniques such as jailbreaking and model inversion pose emerging threats that traditional computer security curricula often lack. We present the design and implementation of a structured, hands-on module addressing this gap, utilizing a custom Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) platform with local open-source LLMs. A cohort of 16 graduate students participated in this two-week pilot module, engaging in "red team" activities to actively exploit model alignment and privacy vulnerabilities. Despite extensive research on Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies, relatively little attention has been given to their impact on financial performance at the firm level. This study proposes a model to investigate the links between I4.0 implementation level (I4.0IL), supply chain management performance (SCMP), customer management performance (CMP), and company financial outcomes using bootstrap-based structural equation modeling (SEM) with data from 91 companies across various sectors. The results of the bootstrap-based SEM with 1,000 resamples show that SCMP significantly influences both CMP and company financial performance, and CMP also significantly impacts financial performance. This study examines the influence of Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAs) on local trade flows in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Using a structured questionnaire, data were gathered from 107 ROSCA members to assess three key areas: the operational dynamics of ROSCAs, the socio-economic profiles of ROSCA members, and the accessibility of financial resources among ROSCA members. The findings reveal a significant positive relationship between the effective management of ROSCAs and increased local trade flows, underscoring that well-organized associations can facilitate smoother financial transactions.
