Background

Regulated medical waste (RMW) drives up health care costs, largely due to misclassification of general waste, especially in operating rooms (ORs), intensive care units (ICUs), and obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) departments. This study aimed to reduce RMW volume and costs at Akron City Hospital (ACH) through department-specific interventions aligning with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.

Methods

Periodic analyses compared hospital-wide aggregate RMW volume, pick-up frequency, and disposal costs before and after interventions. The ORs initiated interventions in October 2022, expanding to ICUs and OBGYN by February 2024. Strategies included staff education, flyers …

Reassessing Residential Reits: Performance And Resilience After Covid-19, Donna Seapoe, Anne Keenaghan, Davinder Malhotra

This study analyzes the monthly returns of residential real estate investment trusts (REITs) from 2010 through 2025, assessing how these investments performed both during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. Using Sharpe, Sortino, and Omega ratios and multi-factor asset pricing models, the study finds that residential REITs delivered stable risk-adjusted returns and improved downside protection relative to broad indices. Value-at-risk metrics confirmed their defensive nature, and portfolio optimization demonstrated diversification and volatility reduction when including residential REITs. Overall, residential REITs were shown to preserve capital and improve portfolio efficiency during market disruptions

Customer orientation is an employee’s natural tendency to focus on understanding and meeting customer needs. When frontline employees have this mindset, they tend to perform better in their jobs and receive stronger performance ratings--and their customers have higher levels of satisfaction. For employees who engage more frequently with customers, it also benefits them personally, leading to greater job satisfaction and stronger commitment to their organization. In 2025, over 50% of US workers worked in hybrid jobs while another 27% work fully remote. As the way we work changes, it is important to understand how these technologies change the way we communicate and how we build trust. This project, based on research done through an Edgren Scholarship, has culminated in a book co-authored with David Horsager and published by Berrett-Koehler. The book has opened conversations related to challenges like proximity bias, remote accountability, employee burnout, meeting structures, and the changing nature of nonverbal communication.

When Venture Capitalists Clash: Exploring The Impact Of Ownership And Status Mismatch On New Venture Growth, Li Wang, Zhu Zhu, Sunny Li Sun

This study investigates the impact of power source mismatch of venture capital syndication on the growth performance of new ventures, considering their corporate governance and institutional environment. Using data from listed companies in the small and medium enterprises market in China, we find that ownership-dominated power source mismatch in venture capital syndication enhances new venture growth performance, while status-dominated power source mismatch has the opposite effect. Additionally, the positive performance impact of ownership-dominated power source mismatch is amplified when the venture capital firm with the highest ownership power joins the board and when the new venture is headquartered in a …
