JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – University School, an innovative preparatory school located on East Tennessee State University’s main campus, has ranked among the top performing schools in the state of Tennessee, according to U.S. News and World Report's 2022 Best High Schools.

In coordination with North Carolina-based RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm, U.S. News reviewed nearly 24,000 schools at the national, state and local levels. Present paper examines the prevalence of Duesenberry’s relative income hypothesis in Nepalese economy during 1974/75-2019/20 through ARDL bound tests under DEF and Davis-SK specifications. The ARDL under DEF specification is found to be not valid. However, the ARDL bound test under Davis-SK specification is found valid. There exists cointegration among average propensity to consume, demonstration effect and ratchet effect. The coefficient of demonstration effect is found to be negative and that of ratchet effect to be positive as reported by ARDL models. The error correction model also implies that short run shocks significantly affect long run relations among the variables. …

Sales organizations are replete with informal forms of organizational control. Despite this, marketing and management literature has primarily focused on the theoretical development and empirical testing of formal, managerial forms of control. One reason research on informal controls has lagged is a lack of comprehensive measurement scales. Specifically, existing measures of the three principal types of informal controls—self, social, and cultural—do not capture the full dimensionality of the constructs (i.e., information, reward, and punishment aspects of informal controls). As secondary stock markets often overestimate corporate value, many Chinese entrepreneurs seek to achieve their wealth targets by going public. However, some companies in China do not want to go public. This paper utilises multi-case research methods to develop theories about which factors lead to corporate reluctance to go public. Case studies show that compared with entrepreneurs with lower shareholdings, entrepreneurs with higher shareholdings have stronger long-term orientations and a greater desire for control and are more reluctant to go public. Industry characteristics affect entrepreneurs’ long-term orientation, desire for control, and early listing experience, thus influencing their listing decision-making. Empirical …

This study utilized quantitative research methods. The sampling technique used was random sampling, determined by the slovin formula—data collection techniques through the distribution of questionnaires and measurement using a Likert scale. The study was done in an ecotourism village in Bali Province with a population of 155 individuals, and the sample size was 100. Disasters create opportunities for philanthropy to rebuild equitably by prioritizing the most vulnerable community members in disaster response and addressing existing disparities and structural inequities in the recovery phase. As intermediaries between donors and local communities, community foundations are well-positioned to lead transformational disaster response.

Manufacturers today need to optimize their fabrication runtime decision by meeting short customer order due dates externally and managing the potentially unreliable machines and manufacturing processes internally. Outsourcing and overtime are commonly utilized strategies to expedite fabricating time. The paper examines the impact of fiscal rules on macroeconomic stability in Nigeria. Using data spanning 2005Q1-2021Q4, the study adopts the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach and constructs output volatility to account for the role of gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), tax revenue, government size, and trade openness in assessing macroeconomic stability. The findings reveal that, Nigeria has deviated from the established rule limits since 2017. The study also finds that increase in government size and GFCF are instrumental to attaining macroeconomic stability during economic crisis. This study utilises the linear and nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) models to investigate the impact of public debt sustainability measures and its growth implications for the Nigerian economy from 1981 and 2021. The results suggest that public debt-to-oil revenue ratio (PDOR) has a significantly negative effect on economic growth both in the long- and short-run. It also shows that public debt-to-non-oil revenue ratio has an asymmetric effect in the short-run and a positive relationship on economic growth in the long-run. This paper attempts to answer the question about whether geopolitical risks and economic uncertainty matter for fiscal sustainability in Nigeria. The paper employs the ARDL model and bounds test approach to cointegration to analyse quarterly data for the period 2010Q1 to 2021Q4. The main finding indicates that geopolitical risks significantly enhance fiscal sustainability in the short- and long-run, while economic uncertainty does not. Accordingly, the study recommends the implementation of policies aimed at maximising the benefits of rising oil price triggered by geopolitical risks to improve fiscal sustainability in Nigeria.

The unemployment-output nexus is a topical issue in developing countries, particularly with some evidence against the trade-off suggested by Okun’s law. This study, therefore, investigates the validity of Okun’s law in the BRICS countries and Nigeria, based on annual data between 1993 and 2020, using the Panel ARDL model. We validate the Okun’s law with evidence of an inverse relationship between output and unemployment in the BRICS countries and Nigeria. We, therefore, recommend that policymakers should boost both nominal and potential output by fully diversifying the economy to enhance productivity and reduction in the unemployment rate. Many factors may influence entrepreneurial persistence in various contexts. For example, scholars find that family business entrepreneurs are more persistent than other entrepreneurs. However, the reasons why they are more persistent are not as well known. Utilizing a conjoint experiment with 64 entrepreneurs and 376 decisions, this paper examines the influence of socioemotional wealth (SEW) on persistence decisions in a family business context. The results of the Hierarchical Linear Modelling show that the expected financial returns, expected non-financial benefits, expected switching costs, and probability of expected outcomes influence entrepreneurial persistence decisions. Despite decades of research on social mobility and wage disparities, it remains a puzzle why people from lower-class families earn less than people from upper-class families even when similar in education and occupational prestige. Taking a sociocultural perspective on social class, we argue that a key contributor to the class pay gap is that people from upper-class origins tend to work in occupations with greater autonomy, whereas their lower-class counterparts tend to work in occupations that are more prosocial. Early studies on the reasons for tax evasion focused on economics. When economic reasons were deemed insufficient to explain all decisions, researchers added psychological and sociological constructs to their explorations. These studies focused on whether taxpayers see their tax compliance decisions as ethical ones. For those who believe their choice is ethical, they must come to grips with their own internal ethical standards and feelings of guilt when they make an unethical decision. We examine how community banks respond to liquidity shocks created by natural disasters. We address community banks’ responses to liquidity shocks due to their focused geographic and economic presence, which coincide with their communities’ exposure to the disasters and the ability of the local banks to meet their needs. We find that community banks respond to liquidity shocks by managing their balance sheet, rather than any single balance sheet account. In particular, we find that they respond to the liquidity needs of their communities by increasing loans as deposits are withdrawn.
