Globally, manufacturing sector is recognized as a key driver of economic development. Kenya’s manufacturing sector has been no exception; with a contribution of 10% to gross domestic product for the duration 2008 to 2014. However, records reveal that in 2017, 2018 and 2019, the contribution deteriorated to 8.4%, 7.7% and 7.54% respectively, suggesting a possible premature de-industrialization. Should this trend persist, Kenya’s goal of achieving a robust manufacturing sector through the Big Four Agenda may not be achieved. This report outlines four overarching issues that the COVID-19 pandemic raised or amplified for faculty, based on a survey of full-time faculty on the main campus of the University of New Mexico in Spring 2022. Some of the issues identified existed before the pandemic, which further exacerbated challenges and inequities. Results based on faculty gender, race/ethnicity, and job title are provided.

The report contains multiple recommendations for each of the four core issues that will assist individual faculty and improve campus climate and culture. Recommendations are often applicable to multiple issues, so we provide an appendix that cross-lists recommendations between …

The development of professional sports stadiums in the United States typically relies on public funding in the form of municipal bonds. Prior research has identified several economic and noneconomic reasons local governments choose to direct public funds towards the construction of stadiums. The overall conclusion of this research suggests sport stadiums do not result in significant increases in economic activity and therefore subsidized stadium development projects lack economic justification. Many empirical research studies suggest that Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) with accounting qualifications improve company performance in various ways such as through better financial reporting accuracy (Aier et al., 2005), internal control (Li et al., 2010), corporate governance (Sun et al., 2015) and tax efficiency (Chen et al., 2020). This suggests that CFOs should be qualified in accounting. However, this study found that this may not always be the case.

A certified lactation counselor, Daniels enjoys working with breastfeeding clients, especially teen moms, through the ETSU College of Nursing’s Nurse-Family Partnership Program (NFP), which provides free, in-home nursing care for first-time, low-income mothers. NFP staff educate participating mothers about pregnancy and follow the family until the child is 2 years old.

Pattern formation in the classical and fractional Schnakenberg equations is studied to understand the nonlocal effects of anomalous diffusion. Starting with linear stability analysis, we find that if the activator and inhibitor have the same diffusion power, the Turing instability space depends only on the ratio of diffusion coefficients (Formula presented.). However, smaller diffusive powers might introduce larger unstable wave numbers with wider band, implying that the patterns may be more chaotic in the fractional cases. We then apply a weakly nonlinear analysis to predict the parameter regimes for spot, stripe, and mixed patterns in the Turing space. Our numerical …

This study examines the relation between a firm's business strategy and its dividend payout policies. Using a comprehensive measure of business strategy based on Miles and Snow's (1978, 2003) theoretical framework, we find that a firm's business strategy affects its dividend payout policies. Specifically, we document that firms following an innovation-oriented business strategy (PROSPECTORS) are less likely to pay, initiate, and increase dividends than those following a cost-effective business strategy (DEFENDERS). We also identify operating cash flow volatility and financial covenant constraints as two potential mechanisms through which innovation-oriented business strategy influences dividend payout policies. Studies show that hiring decisions can be influenced by an applicant’s social media profile (Broughton et al., 2013) as well as their gender (Garcia-Retamero & Lopez-Zafra, 2009). Women, compared to men, are more likely to face hiring discrimination (Garcia-Retamero & Lopez-Zafra, 2009) and many hiring managers tend to look at an applicant’s social media profiles for additional information during the hiring process (Broughton et al., 2013). There is a lack of substantial research on the combination of these two factors. This study examined the effects of gender and social media type on hiring decisions.

Despite the seriousness of shoplifting, consumers’ evaluations, judgements, and intentions toward shoplifting remain underexplored by scholars from business ethics, marketing, retailing, and consumer behavior. We propose a new shoplifting ethics model, which integrates Hunt and Vitell’s theory of ethics with Nadeau, Rochlen, and Tyminski’s typology of shoplifting, by incorporating the moderators of consumers’ personal characteristics (i.e., age, gender, marital status, income) and shoplifting motives (i.e., social, experiential, economic, emotional) onto the relationships among deontological evaluation, teleological evaluation, ethical judgment, and intention. While previous comparative research has identified the formal institutional conditions that differentiate countries on their degree of informal entrepreneurship, this paper examines the characteristics that shape cross-national diversity in its type. Based on a series of fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analyses (fs/QCA) of 138 country cases, we find evidence of causal heterogeneity in the configuration of institutional conditions associated with entrepreneurial outcomes that are informal and growth-oriented and those that are informal and subsistence-oriented. Through the lens of Expectation Disconfirmation Theory and with consideration of other event experience factors, our study examines how strategic concessions changes implemented by the Arthur M. Blank (AMB) Group with the building of Mercedes-Benz Stadium affect the fan experience at its professional sport events. These changes differ significantly from operational practices at most sport venues, with emphasis on eliminating bottlenecks to increase throughput and allowing for reduced costs without negatively affecting quality.
