Do Eastern Religious Traditions Stifle Or Encourage Corporate Innovation? Evidence From China, Lihong Liang, Siyi Liu, Chunqiu Zhang

Although the relationship between Western religiosity and innovation is widely investigated, the effect of Eastern religious traditions on corporate innovation remains unexplored. Using a sample of firms listed in Chinese A-share stock exchanges, we find that firms registered in areas with stronger Eastern religious traditions (Buddhism and Taoism) are generally more innovative than firms registered in areas with weaker Eastern religious traditions. This result suggests that Eastern religiosity promotes rather than stifles corporate innovation. We find additional evidence suggesting that Eastern religiosity promotes corporate innovation mainly through the following three channels: (1) fostering nonexclusivity and openness to science and innovation, …

To increase motivation and satisfaction, the differences between general motivation theories and common humanitarian motivations should be analyzed. These analyses can then be applied to increase retention. While most general motivation theories like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs point to internal or personal needs being met, humanitarian employees are mainly motivated altruistically. Enterprises leverage emerging ITs like big data analytics, the Internet of Things, and blockchain to enhance the resilience of their supply chains in volatile environments. Nevertheless, the precise mechanisms through which these technologies mitigate supply chain vulnerability remain elusive. This study identifies nine emerging ITs and fourteen mitigating factors that contribute to reducing supply chain vulnerability, drawing from both literature and interviews. Employing a novel DEMATEL-ISM approach, it unveils multi-stage impact pathways through which these technologies decrease supply chain vulnerability based on the degrees of their interactions. Community evidenced-based diabetes self-management education (DSME) models have not been examined for feasibility, acceptability, or effectiveness among persons transitioning from prison to the community to independent diabetes self-management (DSM). In a non-equivalent control group design with repeated measures, we examined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effect of a 6-week, 1-h per week Diabetes Survival Skills (DSS) intervention on diabetes knowledge, distress, self-efficacy, and outcome expectancy for transitioning incarcerated males. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to discover which experiences from the COVID-19 pandemic led to leadership and organizational changes within nonprofit organizations located in southern Florida. Data for the study were collected by interviewing leaders of five nonprofit organizations that provided human and social services to individuals and families before, during, and after the pandemic. The participants discussed some of the challenges they experienced with social distancing protocols, service delivery continuity to service users, and the concerns among staff and volunteers. Even though the use of logos that feature animals is prevalent (e.g., Porsche, Lamborghini, Hollister), there is a scant number of empirical works that examine the effect of such logos on marketing outcomes. This research represents a pioneering attempt to address this critical theoretical gap. We propose that logos that feature animals (i.e., animal logos) can influence product perceptions. Empirical evidence from two studies supports our propositions. The findings provide meaningful implications for both theory and practice.

Participatory Design (PD) is an inclusive approach to designing products, services or systems that actively involve the people who use, will use, or be impacted by the design process (Robertson and Simonsen, 2012). PD has been applied in many domains, including architecture, urban planning, product design, healthcare administration, software development, and community engagement, but its application in marketing has been limited. We find that for bond offerings that are non-self-marketed, there is a significantly larger proportion of institutional-sized sell trades than buy. In stark contrast, for self-marketed offerings by underwriters, immediate post-offer trading is characterized by a larger proportion of institutional-sized buy trades than sell. We also find evidence suggesting that retail investors, who are initially shut out of the offering deals, buy bonds in the secondary market at a higher price. Our evidence suggests that certain institutional investors receiving allocations of non-self-marketed offerings flip them for a quick profit. In this paper, we study the coordination of a dual sourcing supply chain comprising a buyer and two suppliers: a regular and an expedited one. The suppliers differ in lead time and cost, with the expedited supplier offering a shorter lead time at a higher cost than the regular supplier. The buyer uses the Tailored Base-Surge inventory policy, ordering every period a fixed quantity from the regular supplier and using the expedited supplier to meet any excess demand. This paper presents the empirical liquidity study of Islamic fixed-income securities during 2020-2021. Using bid-ask and Z-spread metrics we demonstrate that the apogee of both, liquidity and credit stresses in international sukuk market is reached in early April 2020. Contrasting results for non-Islamic fixed-income instruments, we show that sukuk credit spreads recover to pre-Covid levels faster than their bid-ask spreads. However, we find that the share of liquidity component in the yield spread of sukuks always remains below 1%, revealing that Covid-19 does not worsen in relative terms the economic attractiveness of this financing channel for Shariah-concerned entities and investors.

This research explicitly investigated how multinational corporations can enhance workplace inclusion through the novel use of the CliftonStrengths® assessment as a dimension of deep-level diversity. The study gleaned insights from employees’ perspectives, employing a constructivist grounded theory approach to explicate their experiences in rich qualitative narratives. Through open-ended surveys and intensive interviews, participants were selected using purposeful sampling to ensure meaningful data collection from the study organizations’ three global regions.
