This chapter explores strategies to reduce carbon emissions in supply chain transportation, a sector responsible for nearly one-quarter of global energy-related CO₂ emissions. It begins by analyzing the environmental impact of major transport modes trucks, planes, and ships and identifies operational challenges like inefficient fleets, outdated infrastructure, and time-sensitive delivery pressures.

The chapter presents practical solutions including the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles, use of route optimization software, intermodal transport methods, and energy-efficient warehouse operations. The purpose of health insurance is to pay for preventative and nonpreventative health care. Unfortunately, claim denials are frequent and most people do not contested these denials. Consumers lack both knowledge and self-efficacy to challenge their health insurance decision. Conflict is stressful can occur when a health insurance claim is denied unexpectedly. Faced with uncertainty of health care cost coverage, consumers are more likely to delay or forgo healthcare and jeopardize their health. To address this challenge, increase awareness of claim appeal processes and to provide consumer guidance, [STATE] Extension developed a Health Insurance Claim Navigation Tool.

Using a hand collected sample of annual corporate ESG reports, I propose to study the link between CEO compensation and ESG performance and its implications for firm performance. Using stakeholder theory, I propose that companies that link CEO pay with ESG outcomes would perform better in the stock market. This is conditional on other variables, such as diversity of the board and ESG report status.

Background: Crowding and boarding pediatric emergency departments (ED) is an ongoing problem associated with a mismatch in resources and patient care demands. ED boarding can be defined as a patient admitted to an inpatient unit who remains in the ED. ED boarding occurs when there is limited availability of inpatient bed space – either due to patient volume or decreased staffing. ED boarding is associated with adverse events, and increased mortality. Few studies address the impact of inpatient strategies on ED boarding. All healthcare workers (HCWs) are exposed to biohazardous material. Biohazardous material may come in the form of spills, posing a risk of infection to (HCWs) who are not trained on how to safely handle them. While international guidelines recommend training HCWs on how to safely handle biohazardous spills in order to improve their skills, there are no studies that tackled this recommendation. Proactive management of SARS-CoV-2 requires timely and complete population data to track the evolution of the virus and identify at risk populations. However, many cases are asymptomatic and are not easily discovered through traditional testing efforts. Sentinel surveillance can be used to estimate the prevalence of infections for geographical areas but requires identification of sentinels who are representative of the larger population. Our goal is to evaluate applicability of a population of labor and delivery patients for sentinel surveillance system for monitoring the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Understanding cross-sectional and time series variation of asset returns is fundamental in finance, particularly in asset pricing. This thesis explores the integration of factor theory with machine learning to deepen our comprehension of these dynamics. Characteristics based factor models offer a systematic framework for quantifying an asset's underlying risk-return structure, leveraging time-varying conditional information on model parameters carried by firm-specific characteristics. These models serve as valuable tools for discerning the driving components of an asset's expected excess return. When facing tasks of differing difficulty, do people choose to tackle harder ones first or easier ones first? I show that the answer depends on how motivated they are to complete all of the tasks. I examine situations in which people must complete both a harder task and an easier one by the same deadline. When I incentivize people for completing both tasks by that deadline, they are more apt to complete the harder task before the easier task, compared to when they are not incentivized. This change results from two factors. First, the incentive leads people to care more …

Diet-related diseases impact populations across the globe. While intertemporal preferences—a fundamental preference for the distribution of benefits across time—have been used to explain low-quality food choices, the recent literature proposes another cause: inattention to the future implications (or opportunity costs) of the options faced. Food choices tend to become habitual to conserve cognitive resources, rather than carefully modeling future health impacts. Both low discount rates for future benefits and attention to future health impacts predict healthier decisions. Since 1899, the NIU marching band has grown to approximately 200 members a season and plays to crowds of 30,000 people at Huskie Stadium. Correlation Between Interest Rates And Bank Mergers, Maren Egging

This paper examines the relation between macroeconomic factors and bank mergers and acquisitions from 1995 to 2022. I build upon the work of Etsy et al. (1994) to determine an updated analysis of how interest rates and stock market returns may influence merger activity in the banking segment. Using a dataset of 1,153 large bank mergers, I perform correlation analyses to draw three main conclusions. Firstly, bank mergers demonstrate weaker correlations with key macroeconomic variables than industrial mergers. Secondly, I observe material differences from the work of Etsy et al. with what appears to be significant changes in underlying relations. …
