En attendant le vote des betes sauvages peut être lu com me une analyse discursive de la problématique de l'identité de la classe dirigeante. Qui sont réellement les dirigeants africains dont la mauvaise gouvernance a poussé le continent au bord de la banqueroute? Tout remonterait à l'enfance qui, dans le cas de cette élite, a été paralysante. L'analyse met en lumière une enfance bâclée gelée dans une idéologie de servitude.

Evidence suggests that the feminist consensus on Jean-Jacques Rousseau “misogyny” is breaking down.New studies are emerging that bring to light the many sympathetic portrayals of women in Rousseau’s works and the important role he ascribed to women within the family. Some modern feminists are even finding ways of reading Rousseau that speak to women’s concerns today. Overturning the notion that Rousseau was an arch-misogynist will be an uphill battle, however, given how very widespread it has become. Moreover, before we can arrive at a coherent and convincing appraisal of Rousseau’s views on women, a curious paradox needs to be addressed: …

La Poetique Du Paysage Dans L'Oeuvre D'Edouard Glissant, De Kateb Yacine Et De William Faulkner, Nabil Boudraa

This dissertation examines the different ways in which Edouard Glissant, Kateb Yacine and William Faulkner combine landscape, history and identity in their work. The depiction of landscape in literature is not new, but the French Romantics in the 19th century, for instance, tended to describe the beauty of landscape without conceiving any rapport between landscape and humankind, and thus created a gap between the two. For Kateb and Glissant, landscape is also a witness of History. The (hi)story of their respective communities has been confiscated and shattered by the respective colonizers, hence the necessity to recreate it through the poetics …

Prelude To A Text : The Autobiography Of Abdelkebir Khatibi, Ruth Louise Gaertner

This study of Abdelkebir Khatibi’s autobiography, La Mémoire tatouée, addresses two specific questions with respect to autobiography: What does this autobiography tell us about autobiography in general and about its own status as autobiography? What is the relationship between Khatibi’s autobiography and his other more well-known texts? Chapter One focuses on questions of autobiography and how this text challenges generic classification and definition. The analysis in this chapter focuses on a consideration of form and innovation, the multiplicity of the autobiographical subject, and questions of completeness, accuracy and memory in the creation of autobiography. La Poésie, Chanson Des Temps Futurs Ou La Force De L'Avenlr Chez Dadié, Françoise Ugochukwu

This study of Dadié's poetry, focusing on Hommes de tous les continents, uncovers the traditional and biblical roots of this cross-cultural writing. The study of imagery, symbols and rhythm highlights the writer's exploration of time and space, his perception of the poet's role as a soldier and inspired guide, and reveals his poetry as a militant powerfully word pointing towards a future yet unborn.

The purpose of this article is to study the use of oral markers in five excerpts from works by Gérard Bessette. The synchronic analysis looks at the author's use of vernacular in the narrative discourse. The diachronic analysis shows how and why the use of spoken French in the narrative discourse has changed since the publication of the novel La bagarre (1958).

Écriture Apatrlde : Le Langage De L'Exil Dans Le Jardin Perdu D'Andrée Chedid, Marlène Barsoum

The fertile territory of exile, inhabited and explored by displaced writers, has yielded myriad personal narratives. In this article, I discuss the strategy that Andrée Chedid chooses to broach in Le jardin perdu. Instead of relating a personal account of her own uprooting, she recreates the archetypal story of exile, that of Adam and Eve banished from paradise. By imagining what would have been their fears and hopes as they faced the unknown, she evokes the typical emotions of all exiles. By removing the story of displacement from the temporal and personal spheres, she brings it into the realm …

Prospective memory, memory for future events, is used for remembering duties and obligations that all people must complete. Past research has contributed to our understanding of the bases of prospective memory tasks (time versus event) and the kinds of situations requiring prospective memory (appointments, chores, deadlines, and medications). However, research has yet to examine how prospective remembering unfolds over time. For example, very little is known about how such remembering is affected by the time from when the task is encoded to the time that a task must be conducted (the retention interval), the length of the time in which …

Hip-Hop/Scotch: "Sounding Francophone" In French And United States Cultures, Francesca Sautman

This essay adresses the relationship between "being/speaking Francophone" and forms of ethnic-cultural dissent in France and the U.S. In both countries, terms such as Francophone and Francophonie are often captured by specific political agendas and practicies. What it means to be "Francophone" involves complex interfacings between various langages, including English and French, between competing discursive claims made on the basis of linguistic home and the particular forms of cultural and linguistic hybridity, such as French hip-hop culture and world music.

No two texts better exemplify the contemporary "he said, she said" phenomenon than Annie Ernaux's Passion simple (Simple Passion) and Alain Gerard's Madame, c'est a vous que j'eeris (Madam, It Is To You That I Am Writing). Ernaux's book, published in 1991, recounts the author's heretofore hidden affair with a foreign businessman living temporarily in France. Dissatisfied with Ernaux's account, Gerard assumes the lover's identity and chronicles events from his perspective, making Madame, e'est a vous que j' ecris, published four years later, an explicit response to Passion simple. The result is a rare …

Née en 1916 en Québec, Anne Hébert était consommée par la passion de la littérature jusqu'à sa mort le 22 janvier 2000. Elle est devenue connue d'abord pour sa poésie pendant les années quarantes et cinquantes, et plus tard pour ses romans. Elle est l'une des écrivaines québécoises les plus célèbres. Ses œuvres les plus connues comprennent: Le Torrent, Le Tombeau des Rois, Les Chambres de Bois, Le Temps Sauvage, Kamouraska, Les En/ants du Sabbat, et Les Fous de Bassan, parmi d'autres.
