Evidence shows that artificial intelligence (AI) has become an essential academic subject, representing about 2.2% of all scientific publications. One concern for doctoral programs is the future role of AI in doctoral writing due to the increase in AI-generated content, such as text and images. Apprehensions have been expressed that the use of AI may have a negative impact on a doctoral student’s ability to think critically and creatively. Of the roughly 3.5 million public school teachers in the United States, approximately 80% are White. In contrast, about 51.7% of the nation’s students are African American, Hispanic, Asian, and American Indian. This mismatch is expected to grow as the number of BIPOC students in our nation’s public schools continues to increase. Studies have shown that strong positive relationships are essential for learning, but often, the relationships between White teachers and BIPOC students are strained at best, leading to poorer learning outcomes. Although the internet provides benefits, teachers' role as central figures in the learning process is imperative. Due to misuse and abuse of technology, promoting digital citizenship for student teachers was challenging. Using nine elements of digital citizenship by Mike Ribble, this study explores the knowledge and comprehension of digital citizenship (DC) among twenty student teachers involved in semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation. The result of thematic analysis with Nvivo 12 Plus indicates that student teachers assume that DC incorporates digital literacy, the standard of behaviors, and moral guidance in an online environment. The research approach utilized in this study was a case study, and data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation.
