Testicular cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer among younger males, and, if detected early, it is highly curable.

Objectives: Specific to testicular cancer, after this lesson, students will be able to (1) identify the two main forms, (2) identify genetic and behavioral risk factors, (3) access valid and reliable information, (4) assess personal beliefs/feelings about testicular self-exams (TSEs), and (5) correctly identify pathological and non-pathological testes as demonstrated through palpation of latex models.

Primary Audience: High-school through college-aged students. The instructor may decide to present the lesson in single sex classrooms if student or parent discomfort level exists.

Access To Business Research Resources Through Academic Library Web Sites: A Survey, John C. Gottfried

This study is an examination of access to business research resources through academic library Web sites, including research databases, catalog services, research guides, and business librarians. The Web sites of 114 academic libraries serving top business programs in the United States were studied. Results reveal a wide range of access to business research databases among the schools studied (anywhere from 11 to 100 business databases available). Over 95% of the schools provided business research guides, and nearly all schools provided at least some contact information for business librarians.

The purpose of the study was to examine early career physical educators' perspectives on learning to teach in urban schools. Using occupational socialization theory (Lawson, 1983a, 1983b; Lortie, 1975) and cultural relevance theory (Flory & McCaughtry, 2011), I studied three early-career physical education teachers who taught in urban schools but did not grow up in urban communities. Data collection occurred for approximately six weeks with each teacher via lesson observation and in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed using constant comparison. African Americans experience varying disparities including racial discrimination and cultural discontinuities, which are manifested in public school classrooms. Hence these students struggle academically and are less likely to attend college. This study was designed to investigate the effectiveness a Culturally Relevant Pre-Service Teacher (CRPT) Intervention Model for pre-service
teachers. Qualitative methods were used alongside the Cross Racial Identity Scale to respond the effectiveness of CRPT Intervention Sessions. Results indicated that pre-service teachers gained a more in-depth understanding of relationship between their identities within the context of their cultural experiences and all pre-service teachers applied some culturally relevant teaching strategies.

This grounded theory study explored the impact of community engagement on how youth leaders develop. A paradigm model illustrating this developmental process is presented, which includes the conditions that empowered the youth to engage in their community, the strategies used by the youth and the adults in their work together, the conditions that helped/hindered those strategies, and the resulting outcomes. Results of the analysis indicated that individual connections, common sentiments, and being asked to engage were identified as the most salient causal conditions. Elementary students in one school have shown a decline in proficient and advanced performance on statewide assessments. This decline increased for reading and mathematics achievement from 2003--2008, especially for disabled and minority students in grades 3--5.
