A Review Of Secondary Technology Education Teacher Needs In Virginia, M. Kathleen Ferguson

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations

Technology education teachers can have varied pre-service training experiences, thus their needs for classroom support may vary greatly. Perkins V requires evidence-based research to justify the use of funding for professional development. This researcher sought to support Virginia’s secondary technology education teachers, professional organizations, and the Virginia Department of Education’s Technology Education Specialist by providing research to determine professional development needs. This three-phase qualitative study used a survey, documents review, and focus groups to triangulate data to provide information about the research questions. The research questions focused on teachers’ educational background, technology program goals, and issues specific to secondary technology …

The Refractive Thinker®: Artificial Intelligence: The New Frontier Of The Digital Age: Ch 7: Navigating The Integration Of Ai In Higher Education: Opportunities, Challenges, And Ethical Considerations, Cheryl Lentz, Dr. Karen Balcanoff

Publications

As educators in higher education continue to learn the effects and influence of artificial intelligence (AI), there are questions regarding the role of educators. According to Bearman et al. (2023), more research has been conducted about AI technology rather than how AI will affect higher education institutes (HEI). The goal of this chapter was to begin to fill this gap regarding the how by offering discourse through a refractive thinking approach and review of the literature with practical application of this how, particularly in the areas of (a) ethics and cheating, (b) use of administrative repetitive tasks easily delegated, and …

Enhancing Social And Emotional Competencies In Rural Middle School Students: A Cluster-Randomized Study On Character Playbook, Gina Ricker PhD, Joanne Angosta 2024 EVERFI from Blackbaud

Enhancing Social And Emotional Competencies In Rural Middle School Students: A Cluster-Randomized Study On Character Playbook, Gina Ricker Phd, Joanne Angosta

The Rural Educator

This cluster-randomized pre-post study examined the effectiveness of Character Playbook, a digitally delivered, universal social-emotional learning (SEL) program, in enhancing social and emotional knowledge and confidence among rural middle school students. Pre- and post-assessments and surveys measured students’ knowledge and self-reported confidence related to social and emotional skills. The sample consisted of 128 students from two rural middle schools. Analyses of covariance with multiple imputations to account for missing data revealed that students who participated in Character Playbook demonstrated significantly higher knowledge and more positive confidence toward their social and emotional learning competency than the control group. These findings, with …

Integrating Remote Sensing And Machine Learning To Determine Past, Current And Future Crop Water Use From The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System, Moaz Ishag

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The agriculture sector is a significant consumer of water, and sustainable water use begins with monitoring irrigated land. Delineating irrigated land supports decision-makers and promotes the sustainable use of this crucial resource. This study focuses on the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS), the largest aquifers in the world, which spans Egypt, Sudan, Libya, and Chad. The study aims to: 1) quantify the increase in irrigated hectares (both pivot and non-pivot) from 2000-2001 to 2023-2024; 2) identify major irrigated crop types and their water requirements; and 3) quantify groundwater crop water use from the NSAS using remote sensing via the Google …

Improving Students’ Generative Ai Literacy: A Single Workshop Can Improve Confidence And Understanding, Miriam Sullivan, Michael Mcauley, Danielle Degiorgio, Paul Mclaughlan

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

With the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (genAI), it has become increasingly important to ensure that students are equipped with AI literacy to use these tools effectively and appropriately. We ran a 90-minute, optional workshop for students to demonstrate how to use genAI in the assessment process appropriately. By the end of the workshop, participants felt significantly more confident in using genAI, had more intentions to use genAI, and understood the University’s genAI policy better. The types of genAI use that participants envisioned shifted from general academic and life uses to specific, acceptable uses for learning. Students could identify some …

Benefits Of Coding In The Elementary Classroom, Samantha Panek

Graduate Teacher Education

This capstone project focused on the potential benefits of coding, specifically for elementary-aged children. The literature review analyzed fifteen studies from around the world about benefits that could be gained from coding. Students coded with unplugged methods, block-based programs, and robots. Problem-solving was a common benefit found in research about elementary coding. Research also supported that specific content areas could be positively impacted through coding such as computational thinking and mathematical reasoning. Coding encouraged transferable life skills such as planning, collaboration, and creativity. (Arslan & Çelik, 2022; Murcia et al., 2020; O’Grady-Jones & Grant,2023;Wilson, 2020). Additionally, exposure to coding at …

The African Journal of Information Systems

In South Africa, data-intensive synchronous tutoring platforms like Zoom can be exclusionary due to limited internet access at home. Challenges in electronic tutoring include device scarcity, high data costs, network issues and low digital skills. To mitigate data costs, a data-free mobile instant messenger was tested for tutoring, guided by the technological pedagogical content knowledge framework (TPACK). The study included first-year accounting and third-year information systems courses at a historically disadvantaged institution. Qualitative data from tutors revealed that technology-related knowledge was crucial for effective electronic tutoring. Tutors with strong technology and content knowledge utilised the data-free application effectively and employed …

The Future Of Nursing Leadership: Incorporating E-Learned Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Pathways With A Precautionary Focus On Patient-Centered-Care, Jamie Anne Marcus Dr., Bonnette Villalba Webb

FDLA Journal

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a data-driven mathematical process that incorporates machine-based-logic, usually in the form of algorithms. Education, training, and competencies are now conducted through virtual reality, robotics, simulation, and technology learning-based-platforms by healthcare organizations. This represents a significant change in the future of nursing practice. The adaptability of technology-based-learning platforms can impact the quality and efficiency of learning for some of the workforce population. Nurses' perception of technology and AI-driven nursing practice may vary based on generational orientation and can be a potential barrier to learning, practicing, and adaptability of this framework. The forging of well-trained resilient nurse leaders …
