Exploring Online Graduate Student Experiences In Doctor Of Education Programs At A Private Christian Institution: An Ecological Systems Theory Approach, Meagan K. Sanders

This study explored the experiences of online Doctoral of Education students at a private Christian university, primarily considering how they perceived their communication and interaction with instructors and peers. A qualitative research method was used for case analysis, and was built upon the theoretical framework of Urie Bronfenbrenner’s (1979) ecological systems theory approach. The researcher implemented purposeful sampling to identify participants enrolled in the university’s fully online EdD program. This case study (Merriam, 1998) describes the experiences, attitudes, and perceptions of four twelfth-grade students at Bob Jones High School (pseudonym) with literacy deficiencies as they used collaborative technology tools in an online after-school tutoring program that focused on reading and writing skills. Leveraging the sociocultural theory of reading (Freebod & Luke, 1990), participants worked collaboratively to strengthen skills while completing tasks. This study used a cross-sectional survey design in an aim to compare the technology readiness (TR) of hospital-based nurse educators (HBNEs) that use highfidelity simulation (HFS) and those that do not use HFS in order to determine if a difference in TR might account for the lack of widespread adoption of HFS in the hospital setting. An online survey was administered to HBNEs from two national organizations: ANPD and SSH. Descriptive statistics and quantitative data analyses were conducted and reported as well as qualitative findings.
