Continuous-wave functional near-infrared spectroscopy (cw-fNIRS) is a non-invasive brain imaging methodology designed to measure neural activity by detecting hemodynamic responses i.e., adjustments in blood flow and oxygenation to meet the brain’s metabolic needs. Findings on the use of cw-fNIRS by speech-language pathologists (SLP) and neuroscientists to assess cerebral hemodynamic responses during communication assessment and treatment are limited. This study aims to explore the brain’s metabolic response to various sensory processing tasks in neurotypical adults.

When Writers Lead The Lesson: Students As Teachers In Elementary Composing Spaces, Lindsey Rowe, Julie Johnson

The purpose of this article is to describe how teachers implemented student-led minilessons in writing instruction. We use observations from two elementary classrooms to provide examples of student-led instruction focused on digital and translingual composing. Through these examples, we outline three steps teachers can take to support student-led composing instruction: (1) look for innovative student composing practices, (2) yield the floor to students, and (3) lend support as needed. We conclude by discussing how student-led composing instruction positions children as experts and models in the classroom.

Introduction: Simulation is commonly used to address interprofessional learning within healthcare programs to develop practice-ready clinicians. However, barriers such as scheduling, and discrepancy of learners’ knowledge and attitudes often pose challenges for educators to implement student-student (S-S) simulation-based interprofessional education (IPE). This study explored student perceptions about a novel simulation-based IPE mode in which students were paired with professionals from other disciplines.

This research study investigates the impacts of four specialized STEM education models—T-STEM (Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), P-TECH (Pathways in Technology), Early College High Schools (ECHS), and New Tech Network schools (NTN) on student performance in Texas high schools. By analyzing aggregate student data collected by the state, this study compares the academic outcomes of students in these STEM-focused schools with those in traditional curriculum schools using ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance) and Logistic Regression. The findings reveal mixed results: while some specialized STEM models show enhanced performance in STEM and other academic subjects, others do not consistently outperform …

This qualitative case study involved a sample of middle school teachers participating in a cross-curricular peer observation of teaching (POT) program. The study aimed to explore the experiences of these teachers in the POT program, focusing on its impact on teaching pedagogy and partner relationships. Data collection methods included a demographic questionnaire, writing prompts, feedback forms, observation of feedback meetings, interviews, and a researcher journal. The purpose of this study was to analyze tactics employed by coordinated programs in dietetics during COVID-19 and share best practices in the event that another crisis disrupts the intended learning plan and curriculum. The study was conducted via a survey that consisted of 14 questions, not including consent, that pertained to their specific program, whether COVID disrupted their supervised practice experiences, and if so, how they overcame the challenge.
