The aim of the research is to know the effect of deep learning strategies on strategic thinking, life-effectiveness skills and the desire to learn among students of the fifth science in the subject of mathematics. To verify the goal of the research, three hypotheses were formulated. The research sample consisted of (64) students, randomly selected, and distributed to two groups (31) control students, (33) experimental groups, and equivalence between them was performed with a number of variables. This quantitative, quasi-experimental study investigated the differences in self-concept among sixth-grade students across various school subjects, particularly reading and mathematics, by comparing those engaged in project-based learning versus traditional learning. In rural eastern Virginia, the researcher utilized a modified version of the Self Description Questionnaire-I (SDQ-I) and a nonequivalent control group, pre/posttest design with analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) during the 2023–2024 academic year. Focusing on a Virginia middle school, classes were randomly assigned to either treatment, which was project-based learning, or control, which included traditional learning methods. Traditional grading strategies may not accurately reflect student knowledge. Educators are beginning to develop more accurate and efficient methods for grading students. These alternative methods include; standards based grading, content based grading, portfolio assessment, narrative feedback, and minimum grading. These grading strategies focus more heavily on content mastery, rather than non-academic variables such as student behavior.
