Career Pathway Experiences Of Three Female School Superintendents: A Phenomenology, Liann M. Hanson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Women represent 75 to 80 percent of the teachers across the U.S. (Glass, 1992), and the percentage of female superintendents is not in alignment with the female workforce. Research indicates that the career pathways of male and female superintendents differ. While male superintendents often have a sequential pathway to a superintendency, women tend to take more of a labyrinth type of pathway resulting in a longer, indirect path to the superintendent position (Eagly and Carli 2007). This study examined the career pathways of female superintendents, and the support needed to increase gender equity for the superintendency. This dissertation examines the …

It also examined the effects of teacher leaders’ implementation of a School-University partnership and the leadership characteristics of principals on school collective efficacy. Collective teacher efficacy was measured using Goddard’s (1998) 6-point 21-item Likert Collective Teacher Efficacy scale. There were 280 teachers and 53 teacher leaders who completed the scale. The Collective Teacher Efficacy scale results were analyzed and examined in relationship to school-level Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) test …

The Perceptions Of Principals Regarding The Effectiveness Of Their Preparation Programs In Southeastern United States, Phyllis Michelle Jones
Student Theses and Dissertations
Laser-like attention has been focused on training principals since the passing of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2001, which emphasized student achievement. This dissertation examined the perceptions of principals on how their leadership preparation programs helped them develop the skills necessary to be competent and ultimately successful in their jobs. Additionally, this study investigated the claims that universities have done a below average job of adequately preparing principals to successfully lead schools and that universities are no longer suitable to meet the demanding expectations of principals. Counter to these claims is the notion that it is impossible …
