Homeless Friendly Campus: An Exploratory Case Study Of University Liaisons, Brandy Gros
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This study aimed to explore how University Liaisons respond to homelessness on their campus. With new federal and state laws being enacted, little research focuses on the policies, programs, and services at universities. Community Colleges tend to be a more attractive option for homeless youth due to the low cost; however, universities are also seeing an increase in the homeless student population, and more research is needed at the university level. The overarching research question is: How are universities' liaisons with state legislation responding to homelessness? This study used a comparative multiple-case study approach to explore how ULs respond to …

Work Hard For The Money: Performance-Based Funding In The State Of Louisiana, Victoria C. Lloyd
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to examine in what ways, if any, the introduction of the equity incentive portion of Louisiana’s performance-based funding model impacted the underserved student groups it was designed to support. I employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design for this study by running three outcome variables (Adult Learner Enrollment, First-Time Enrollment for Racially Minoritized Students, and Low-Income Student Enrollment) by sector (two- and four-year public institutions) and employing a differences-in-differences regression with panel data. In my analysis I uncovered two main findings: 1) Louisiana’s equity incentive is showing early signs of success for all three underserved groups …

A Comparative Analysis Of Models Of Cybersecurity In Louisiana Public School Systems, Bonnie B. Chelette
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
K-12 schools in Louisiana face unique cybersecurity challenges due to the state's high poverty rate, resource constraints, infrastructure weaknesses, and vulnerability to natural disasters. Public school systems in Louisiana have been particularly vulnerable to these attacks, with incidents of cyberattacks tripling in 2020 alone. The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has implemented several cybersecurity initiatives, including the Louisiana Cybersecurity Commission and the Louisiana Cybersecurity Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (LaCISO). However, there is limited research on the effectiveness of these initiatives and cybersecurity models in Louisiana public schools. This study aims to address this gap in understanding by conducting a …

Secondary Trauma And Compassion Fatigue On Middle School Educators, Janna Kilgore-Cameron
Ed.D. Dissertations
Educators have been leaving the field of education at a high rate each year with no signs of slowing down. Tennessee, as well as many other states across the country, have started the school year with unfilled positions due to so many vacancies. Previous researchers found educators left due to an overwhelming workload paired with an escalation in student behaviors, a lack of administrative support, and increased stress dealing with secondary trauma and compassion fatigue. Educators shared they felt isolated as they have neglected their own mental and physical health. The purpose of this basic, interpretive qualitative study was to …

Are They Ready? Do Teacher Preparation Programs Adequately Prepare Students To Implement Culturally Responsive Teaching?, Frances A. Aboushi
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
A narrative study was used to examine the lived experiences of novice teachers and their knowledge base of culturally responsive pedagogy and its implementation in the classroom. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews of 12 participants who completed a teacher preparation program. Through coding analysis, data was analyzed around the tenets of culturally responsive pedagogy and the impact of self-efficacy in its implementation. Although their knowledge about culturally responsive pedagogy varied, their responses illustrated the need for teacher preparation programs to provide a framework of uniformity and accountability.
The level of training obtained substantially impacted their self-efficacy in adopting CRP …

Does Community Of Practice Theory Apply To Virtual Postgraduate Surgical Training?, Sherif Elnikety, Eman Badr
Health Professions Education
Postgraduate surgical training has evolved over centuries as a result of changes in the community, advances in medicine, technological innovations, and the theoretical basis of training and education. The recent pandemic has had a significant effect on postgraduate surgical training. Training has been provided virtually, which has negatively affected the relationship between trainers and trainees. While virtual training has provided a solution for geographical barriers, it did not provide a similar training experience compared to face-to-face interactions. Technical skills, in particular, were extremely difficult to teach virtually. Although the COVID-19 pandemic is over, and daily life is returning to normality, …

Servant Leadership In African Christian Immigrants As An Organizational Strategy To Mitigate The Great Resignation, Kwabena A. Asenso-Okyere
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore leveraging servant leadership in African Christian immigrants as an organizational strategy to mitigate the Great Resignation. The theories guiding this study are the Competing Value Framework by Robert Quinn and Kim Cameron (2011), Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions by Geert Hofstede (2011), Social Identity Theory by Henri Tajfel and John Turner (1979, 1986), John W. Berry’s (1992) Acculturation model, and Greenleaf’s (1970, 1998) Servant Leadership. These theories were integrated within the context of faith, culture, and leadership. Study findings indicated that the cultural diversity and basis in faith of African Christian immigrants …

"I Just Feel Worn Out”: Constraints To Teacher Agency Throughout Covid-19, Andrew Kipp, Spencer Clark, Carl Fahrenwald, Gustavo Perez
School Leadership Review
COVID-19 created serious and long-lasting difficulties within educational systems resulting in higher rates of teacher attrition in the U.S. Teacher agency, which is the teacher’s capacity to act professionally, is a predictor of teacher attrition. The school environment, through policies and practices, can inhibit teacher agency, and the constraint of agency promotes teacher attrition. As school structures shift to address new post-pandemic needs, there is an increased need to understand how school structures throughout the pandemic inhibited teacher agency and drove teacher attrition. We examine how school systems constrained the agency of three veteran high school teachers from March 2020 …
