Electronic library content must be accessible to students with disabilities, however many institutions have focused on accessibility of physical facilities without considering the requirements for online information. Western Kentucky University (WKU) developed a required, automated program to audit WKU Libraries’ electronic content including, the website and library database vendors. Additionally, WKU began requesting documentation of accessibility features in the form of a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). This presentation will focus on both our internal auditing efforts and the challenges of obtaining accurate vendor documentation.

Makerspaces offer an outstanding perspective in teaching interdisciplinary studies. A wonderful example is the Future of Music Makerspace, which introduces participants to basic musicianship. By studying music, students will learn various other disciplines while collaborating and accomplishing a common goal.

Students love doing hands-on work with multimedia – images, audio, video and Web sites. Unfortunately, software to do such work so can be costly and difficult to install. This hands-on presentation will show participants free tools for editing images, audio, video and Web site creation as well as how to incorporate them into their computer literacy courses. Most of the tools that will be shown are Web-based; students only need an Internet connection to use them. Since the session is short, hyperlinks to tutorial videos, sample assignments and grading rubrics will be made available to participants.

The present study aims to bring out the contributions made by the members of various departments of Periyar University, Salem. Further, it views the impact of the scholarly publications produced from Periyar University in India and the data analyzed for the study were retrieved from Web of Science (WOS) database for a period from 1998 to 2014. The study focuses on publishing trend, authorship pattern, and type of documents, country wise distribution of authors and individual authors’ research publications and their TLCS, TCLS, TLCR and so on.

This talk is an expanded version of one given at the 2015 MOBIUS conference. Washington University librarians Emily Stenberg and Lauren Todd explain how they created and manage a collection in the university’s repository Open Scholarship for the Computer Science and Engineering department. This presentation will highlight how they developed a step-by-step workflow, addressed customization requests from the department, what really happened once that plan was implemented, and how they handle Bepress troubleshooting and faculty concerns. The presenters will also discuss how this project has helped them offer Open Scholarship as a service to other engineering faculty.

Investigating the use of gold open access content within subscription content has been a near impossible task until the adoption of the COUNTER 4 statistics in 2014. By reviewing the COUNTER JR1 GOA 2014 reports, two librarians evaluate the gold open access usage at their respective institutions from the following publishers: Elsevier, NPG, Sage, Springer, and Wiley. This initial investigation will be a benchmark for future studies to see if there is any impact on subscribed content or if usage is limited to non-subscribed content from these providers. The allure of passing an institutional open-access (OA) policy as a strategy to populate an institutional repository is clear. After all, educating faculty to retain their rights to their scholarly publications through passage of such a policy, then requiring them to make those publications available through an IR seems a sure path to success. However, this approach of “if you pass it, they will comply” rings eerily similar to the early and decidedly misplaced optimism of populating institutional repositories through a “build it and they will come” proposition (Salo, 2007). DataQ is an IMLS­-funded project led by the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries, GWLA, and GPN to develop an online knowledge-­base of research data questions and answers curated for and by the library community. Publicly submitted questions to DataQ are reviewed by an Editorial Team of experts from 15 institutions across the United States. The site also includes links to resources, best practices, and practical approaches to working with researchers to address specific research data issues. This update from members of the Editorial Team will discuss outcomes and future directions following the first year of the DataQ project.

Embedding the Affordable Learning Solutions (ALS) into the Academic Senate provides a forum and a platform for promoting ALS to and with faculty. At Cal State East Bay, ALS is now a Subcommittee of the Committee on Instruction and Curriculum (CIC) with representation from key constituencies, including a faculty representative from each College and the Library. Recommendations and suggestions can now be routed through CIC to the full Senate.
