The research aimed to assess the current state of digital preservation practices among PRRLA (Pacific Rim Research Libraries Alliance) member libraries. A literature review on digital preservation in academic libraries was conducted. Information was gathered through surveys and interviews. focusing on policies, staffing, skills, funding, collection maintenance and services related to digital preservation. Additionally, the study explored the role of AI, and future trends in digital preservation. Challenges and best practices for sustainable digital preservation were highlighted.

This project evaluated the current state of digital preservation practices among PRRLA (Pacific Rim Research Libraries Alliance) member libraries. This report outlined the best practices and guidelines of the member libraries. The study involved a literature review to examine existing research and practices in digital preservation. A survey was designed to collect detailed information from PRRLA members, complemented by online interviews with selected institutions to gain deeper insights. The report has the key findings, successful strategies with some suggestions for sustainable development of digital preservation.

An institutional repository (IR) was launched in 2010 for a university in Singapore. The motivations of setting up an IR were to dissemination the research output through open access, to promote the university and researchers, and to help increase their research impact. Some quantitative and qualitative performance indicators were selected and used to measure the success of the IR. In this Keynote speech, Aaron argues that ChatGPT or similar large language models alone is not sufficient for information retrieval. Open Access levels are now at a tipping point. According to Digital Science’s Dimensions for the year 2020, Open Access surpassed subscription publication globally for the first time (Hook, 2021). Similarly in Dec 2020, with Elsevier agreeing to deposit open references to Crossref (the last major publisher to do), over 90% of Crossref references are now open (Hutchin, 2021). The Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA) calls on scholarly publishers to open their abstracts, and specifically to deposit them with Crossref. Unrestricted availability of abstracts will boost the discovery of research. 40 publishers have already agreed to support I4OA and to make their abstracts openly available. I4OA is also supported by a large number of research funders, libraries and library associations, infrastructure providers, and open science organizations.
