Due to the shortage of man-power in rural regions, forest grazing was tested as an alternative to eliminate the noxious plants dispersed on the timber plantations in Taiwan. Tree growth was not affected, when Hereford heifers were introduced to 4-year-old Taiwania cryptomerioides plantations(at 1,600 m altitude). Although indigenous water buffaloes were less tolerant to heat than the European cattle( Hereford and Holstein), they were able to show moderate body weight gain in the tough forest environment. Partial blood profiles obtained from buffaloes and cattle gave the same conclusion.

The effects of grazing intensity and frequency were investigated on a ryegrass/white clover pasture. Large differences in herbage mass between treatments arose mostly from ryegrass reproductive stubble during spring and mid-summer and from dead reproductive stubble during mid-summer and early autumn. Leafy, vegetative pastures were achieved during the reproductive growth period by maintaining a sward residual of less than 500 kg leaf DM/ha (sward height 9 cm) and a grazing interval of less than 14 days (pre-grazing height 20 cm). Grasslands cover 2.86 million km2 of the total territory and 100 million livestock are being raised there. The contribution of some basic plant disciplines, principally physiology and histology, to the improvement of pasture yield and quality is discussed. Studies of temperate pasture grasses have identified several sources of loss of potential yield and have provided selection criteria for increasing yield. Integration of this physiological research with studies of forage consumption on the same pastures is proving a valuable inter- disciplinary approach to defining management options for maximising pasture and/or animal productivity. In this paper, I examine Bernard Suits’ conceptualization of goals in his influential definition of gameplay, focusing on how his account falls short of capturing the complexity of sporting practices. Suits famously describes games as voluntary attempts to overcome unnecessary obstacles in achieving an identifiable state of affairs. By referring to this state of affairs as the prelusory goal of games, he frames gameplay as structured teleologically around this goal, converting it into the most fundamental element of his notion of gameplay. Objectives: Community-dwelling older adults face unique challenges related to nutrition and health, but little is known about their barriers and facilitators for healthy eating behaviors. This study sought to develop and evaluate a new instrument to measure the capability, opportunity, and motivation for healthy eating behaviors (COM-HE) among community-dwelling older adults.

Design: A mixed methods approach was used to obtain qualitative and quantitative data. Participants were aged 65 years or older, community-dwelling, and English-speaking. The field of single-cell biology is growing rapidly, generating large amounts of data from a variety of species, disease conditions, tissues, and organs. Coordinated efforts such as CZI CELLxGENE, HuBMAP, Broad Institute Single Cell Portal, and DISCO allow researchers to access large volumes of curated datasets, including more than just scRNA-seq data. These resources have created an opportunity to build and expand the computational biology ecosystem to develop tools necessary for data reuse and for extracting novel biological insights. We highlight achievements made so far, areas where further development is needed, and specific challenges that need to be overcome.

Lactation support from health professionals is a crucial social determinant of health. Registered dietitians (RDs) and registered nurses (RNs) can play an important role in supporting breastfeeding, yet most have minimal formal lactation education and training. This study seeks to explore the correlates of professional breastfeeding perceived role, perceived influence, and confidence in providing lactation support among RDs and RNs. Using a cross-sectional design, a convenience sample of 111 credentialed providers completed an online survey assessing their breastfeeding-related training, experiences, knowledge, attitudes, and practices. As climate change intensifies, extreme weather increasingly threatens California’s Central Valley (CV), a vital agricultural region exposed to rising risks from heatwaves (HW), droughts (DR), and compound extremes. These events disrupt crop productivity and broader processes like water demand, pest dynamics, and soil stability, posing systemic risks. This study examines the spatiotemporal dynamics of HW, coldwaves (CW), DR, excessive rainfall (ER), and their compound (e.g., HWDR) and cascading forms from 1951 to 2025, using NOAA nClimGrid-Daily data. The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The study assessed milk production performance of local cows, milk handling practices, physicochemical properties, and milk production constraints in Kucha District, Southern Ethiopia. A purposive and random sampling technique was employed to select 138 respondents for the interview. For physicochemical property assessment, milk samples were collected from 90 interviewed households. Majorities (76.7%) of the respondents were males, and the average family size was 6.82±0.25. Mean daily milk yield (DMY) of 1.80±0.07, 1.94±0.06, and 1.52±0.09 liters was recorded for local cows, respectively, in early, mid, and late lactation stages. Elaeagnus pungens Thunb is a significant source of flavonoids with biological function. This study aims to develop orthogonal tests and alkali alcohol extraction methods for extracting flavonoids from leaves of E. pungens. The levels of factors in the orthogonal test were determined by pre-experiment, and the physiological efficacy was verified by the in vivo test. The results indicated that the optimal extraction yield was 4.07% when the solid-to-liquid ratio was 1:40, the concentration of ethanol was 60%, the extraction temperature was 80℃, and the extraction time was five h. The digitization of agriculture, through IoT-enabled equipment, cloud platforms, and precision technologies, has improved efficiency and profitability while also introducing significant cybersecurity risks. These vulnerabilities can disrupt supply chains, compromise sensitive data, and undermine financial stability. Yet agribusiness degree programs often overlook cybersecurity education. This paper proposes integrating cybersecurity content on threat awareness, incident response, and data protection into agribusiness curricula. Embedding these elements equips graduates to manage both digital and financial risks, enhancing resilience and competitiveness. Rates of lactate production and consumption reflect the metabolic state of many cell types, including neurons. Here, we investigated the effects of nutrient deprivation on lactate dynamics in Drosophila neurons by leveraging the limiting effects of the unstirred layer, a diffusion barrier that forms around cells in culture. We found that neurons constitutively consume lactate when the availability of trehalose, a glucose disaccharide preferred by insects, is limited by the unstirred layer. Acute mechanical disruption of the unstirred layer reduced this reliance on lactate. Trauma remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in part due to complex pathophysiological responses. Yet our abilities to predict these changes are limited. Plasma miRNAs have been proposed as DAMPs that drive immune response and organ injury. Here, we test a panel of plasma miRNAs-selected based on next-generation sequencing and nucleotide motifs identified via a machine-learning algorithm-for their abilities to predict subclinical pathophysiological injuries. We find marked and severity-dependent increases in the miRNA biomarkers following trauma, which are closely associated with various injury markers. Lysosomes are essential organelles for cellular homeostasis and signaling, with dysfunction linked to neurological disorders, lysosomal storage diseases, and cancer. Here, we developed a cryo electron tomography workflow to visualize lysosomal membrane proteins within intact, native lysosomal membranes. Schisandra chinensis polysaccharides (SCP) are isolated from Schisandra chinensis with a mean molecular weight of 32.401 kDa. Previous studies have demonstrated that Schisandra chinensis extract effectively prevented colitis and modulated gut microbiota in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mice. In this study, 3% DSS was used to induce acute ulcerative colitis in mice, and then the SCP with different doses (50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg) and 5- aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) were used to treat mice by oral gavage for one week. This study evaluated the effects of varying water pH levels, adjusted with organic (formic acid) and inorganic (sodium hydrogen sulfate) acidifiers, on the growth performance, blood biochemistry, carcass yield, and meat quality of broiler chickens. The objective was to determine how these factors affect broiler health and production efficiency. Urban stormwater runoff is increasingly recognized as a critical but underexplored pathway for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to enter aquatic environments. This work investigated the occurrence and behavior of 40 PFAS compounds in stormwater runoff entering a roadside rain garden in Secaucus, New Jersey, during six storm events between August 2023 and July 2024. Total PFAS concentrations (Σ40 PFAS) ranged from 1437 to 1615 ng/L, with perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS, 239–303 ng/L) and perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA, 115–137 ng/L) consistently emerging as dominant species.
