Environmental Enrichment Preferences And Play Behavior In Commercial Turkey Hens, Paul Dang
Environmental Enrichment Preferences And Play Behavior In Commercial Turkey Hens, Paul Dang
Poultry Science Undergraduate Honors Theses
Commercial turkey production contributes significantly to the U.S. agricultural industry, yet studies on positive welfare indicators, especially play behavior, are limited. This study evaluated turkey hen interactions with two environmental enrichments (straw bales and pecking stones hung from the ceiling) and the expression of play behavior in turkey barns. Three commercial turkey hen barns were equipped with environmental enrichments and time-lapse video cameras. Play behaviors were recorded during transect walks in two barns using 30-second scans of disturbed and undisturbed patches. Regional use of space around enrichments was quantified through region-of-interest (ROI) analysis of time-lapse images collected from days 16-31 …

Evaluating Soil And Plant Health In A Wide-Row Maize (Zea Mays L.) Production System Integrated With Perennial Cover Crops And Turkey (Meleagris Gallopavo), Sovika Bhattarai
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
In regions dominated by intensive maize (Zea mays L.) production systems, such as the US Midwest, sustainable agricultural practices such as cover crops and livestock integration are gaining interest for their potential to improve soil, plant, and environmental health. Traditionally, annual cover cropping systems (ACCs) have been used to maintain soil quality and crop performance without compromising ecosystem services. However, the high establishment and management costs of ACCs highlight the need for alternative approaches, such as perennial cover crops (PCCs). Grown as companion crops with maize, PCCs provide extended soil cover and can improve soil biochemical properties (e.g., total C …

Performance Of Ley Farming Systems Including Annual Legumes And Mixtures Of Legumes With Grasses At Cukurova In Turkey, V Tansi, T Saglamtimur, H Baytekin
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Ecological conditions in Cukurova are favourable for production of various crops, including cotton and wheat, so cotton monoculture or cotton-wheat rotation systems have been common for many years. These monoculture systems have brought some soil and pest problems into .Cukurova. To improve the livestock production, intensive dairy units were established, However, half of these were later liquidated since the livestock husbandry was unprofitable, compared with cash cropping. The most limiting factor was the high purchase cost of fodder. Ley fanning is an alternative system in which crops are alternated on the same land to obtain fodder without reducing yields of …

These include hard paste and porcelain vessels, glazed vessels such as Didymoteicho and Çanakkale Wares, and coarse-ware vessels such as Gaza Ware and other local wares. Imitations of Chinese porcelain were observed, such as the use of transfer-printing technique and Sponge Ware. Also found were a Meissen coffee cup, clay pipes of the chibouk type, narghile heads, floor tiles and glass bracelets, typical of the Ottoman period. The numerous imported vessels in the assemblage correlate with the status of …
Chemical And Isotopic Study Of Lead-Based Objects From A Late Roman Tomb On Sallah Ed-Din Street, Jerusalem (Pp. 133–138), Irina Segal
'Atiqot
Several lead-based artifacts, discovered in a cist tomb (T2200) within the Late Roman-period cemetery on Sallah ed-Din Street, were analyzed in order to elucidate their chemical composition and provenance. The chemical composition of some of the objects seems to point to a mining source located in central Britain. It seems reasonable to suggest that soldiers of the Roman army brought these lead objects to Jerusalem.

Effects Of Fertilizers And Rest On The Overgrazed Semi-Arid Ranges Of Central Anatolia, U Buyukburc
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
To improve the degenerated natural village pastures of Turkey in semi arid regions, different fertilisers and resting treatments were tested. The experiment was established on two rangelands, which showed different plant communities (Thymus squarrosus L. and Artemisia fragrans L.). Each species was dominant in vegetation and had 38-70% weight of total herbage production. At the beginning of the experiment, the dry yield varied from 200 to 565 kg/ha and the average plant cover was 20- 28.5%. Fertilisers, especially 75 or 100 kg/ha of ammonium sulphate, plus superphosphate, or using equal amount of diammonium phosphate DAP (20+20), significantly increased dry yield …

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Turkey has 78 million ha land area. Of this, about 28% covers permanent grasslands, 36% arable land, and 30% forest and woodlands. Mainly, ii has a typical mediterranean climate but with regional differences. In general, Turkish grasslands are continuously being overutilised. There are 3 utilisation systems called sedentary, transhumance and nomadic. Each not only has its constraints but also some rational use under special situations. Intensive feeding programmes with high yielding and quality forage crops are also being encouraged. Recently, a national project, the south-eastern Anatolian Project (GAP in Turkish), is proceeding in the form of a big regional development. …

This study provides updated the length-weight relationships and Fulton's condition factor of 28 fish species belonging to 23 families from the Black Sea. Samples were collected along the depths between 0-100 meters by demersal trawl surveys conducted seasonally from May 2017 to September 2019. A total of 83,885 specimens were collected. The length-weight relationships and Fulton's condition factor, minimum, maximum and mean lengths, total weights, descriptive statistics, and growth type were provided for all the species. The results indicate that LWR parameters of b varied from 2.2039 to 3.737 and Fulton's condition factor varied between 0.004 and 1.18. These findings …
