Thynnidae In The United States, William H. Ashmead

An

In Ent. News, Vol. III, p. 104 (1892), the following brief notice by Mr. Wm. H. Patton occurs: "Thynnus in California. This genus has not hitherto been found north of the equator in either hemisphere, nor has any of the family Thynnidae. A single specimen received from Dr. F. E. Blaisdell, from Poway, San Diego County, Cal., is the first intimation of its occurrence in North America. It is a small black species with hyaline wings and may be named Thymms californicus.''

Review Of The Phytogeography Of Nebraska. 1. General Survey, By Roscoe Pound, Elizabeth Britton Jul 1898

Review Of The Phytogeography Of Nebraska. 1. General Survey, By Roscoe Pound, Elizabeth Britton

School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications

From the preface we learn that this work is the result of nearly five years of active study of the floral covering of Nebraska, carried on by the members of the Botanical Seminar in the Botanical Survey of the State. The systematic study of the vegetation of Nebraska was begun by Dr. Bessey in 1884, and has since been carried on by him and his students, all previous collecting having been more or less desultory and unreliable. The Botanical Survey was organized in 1892, and its work has been directed to the collecting of specimens and observations for a series …

Bulletin No. 57 - By-Products Of The Dairy, F. B. Linfield Jun 1898

Bulletin No. 57 - By-Products Of The Dairy, F. B. Linfield

UAES Bulletins

Soon after becoming connected with the Station, the writer, from observations made in various parts of the State, was impressed with the necessity for investigation looking to the profitable disposal of the by-products of the dairy, both at the factory and on the farm. The common method at the factories seemed to be to feed hogs on milk or whey alone, and where grain was fed, it was only given to finish the hog for market. This method of management did not appear to be successful, for it generally took the whole season to get one crop of hogs ready …

The Vegetation Regions Of The Prairie Province, Roscoe Pound, Frederic Clements Jun 1898

The Vegetation Regions Of The Prairie Province, Roscoe Pound, Frederic Clements

School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications

The vegetative covering of the North American continent falls naturally into two great areas, forest and plain. At first thought it would seem that these were primary phytogeographical divisions, but a comparison with the vegetative covering of other continents proves the contrary. Considered as a phytogeographical feature, the North American forested area is an entity ; from a floristic or formational standpoint, it may be analyzed into several distinct portions of widely separated relationship. The ground-tone of the great bulk of the North American forests is that of the forests of British North America, which are closely related to those …

Bulletin No. 56 - Field Experiments With Wheat, Oats, And Barley, Lewis A. Merrill

UAES Bulletins

The testing of varieties is by no means the most important work of the Station. It, however, has its value in bringing into the State [Utah], and acclimating, new varieties that may be suited to our conditions better than any now grown. The results reached in these tests ought to receive the careful attention of our farmers, because success in raising cereals depends upon securing the varieties best suited to our purpose, and in growing those in greatest demand.

The experiments recorded in the following pages give the results of variety tests with wheat, oats and barley, and, in addition, …
