The Eatonia newsletter is named after Rev. Alfred E. Eaton who studied mayflies in England in the late 1800’s and is considered the “father” of the modern classification of mayflies.

Ueber einen Nestfund von Bombus distinguendus Mer. Am 7. Juli 1877 wurde mir von einem Schuler ein kleiner Theil eines Nestes von B. distinguendus ausgegraben. Das Nest befand sich in der Erde und wa ½ m tief angelegt. Zu demselben fuhrte eine ziemlich weite, zuerst gerade, spatter schrag laufende Einflugsrohre. Wei bei allen unterirdischen Nestern waren die Zellencylinder erst von einer Wachsdecke und dann van Moos uberdeckt. Die Zellencylinder haben eine sehr helle, fast strohgelbe Farbe, und die meisten sind sehr lang. Von den Arbeiten dieser Hummel schreibt HOFFER in “Die Hummeln Steiermarks”

COLORADO, the State of lofty mountains, with its wonderful canons, gorges, and plateaux, a dry climate, and remarkable for its great mineral wealth and fossil remains, from its position in the Rocky Mountains affords a peculiarly interesting Fauna .. In the present memoir, it is intended to elucidate, as far as possible, a part of this, the hymenopterous fauna, describe such species as appear to be unknown to science, give notes, a list of the species occurring in the State, and show as much of their life-histories as is practicable.
