AmiCi24 is a novel temperate bacteriophage collected from a soil sample originating in Sewell, NJ, USA and cultivated with Arthrobacter globiformis B-2979. AmiCi24 is a Siphoviridae morphotype, belonging to the cluster AS and subcluster of AS3. The AmiCi24 genome consists of 38,466 basepairs, encoding 68 genes.

International Journal of Exercise Science 18(5): 443-455, 2025. Cardiovascular fitness (VO2max) predicts all-cause mortality and is vital to assess in cancer survivors (CS) for individualized exercise prescriptions. Metabolic carts confirm VO2max with respiratory exchange ratio (RER) >1.10; other VO2max criteria include ≤10 beats/minute of maximal predicted heart rate and/or a rating of perceived exertion (RPE) of >8 on the Modified Borg Scale. Another suggested criterion is respiratory frequency (Rf) > 40 breaths per minute. The Ozark big-eared bat (Corynorhinus townsendii ingens) is endangered in Arkansas and is known to have small populations, range restrictions, and specific habitat requirements in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. Beyond their known range, there are other potentially suitable areas that have not been confirmed. We aim to test whether the non-invasive genetic analysis of guano samples can identify Ozark big-eared bat cave use and expand their known range. The Western Chicken Turtle (Deirochelys reticularia miaria; WCT) is a Species of Greatest Conservation Need that is currently under review for federal listing and is assumed to be rare and declining across its range. WCT are threatened by a variety of anthropogenic challenges, including habitat loss, habitat modification, and road mortality. The conservation of this species is further hindered by a lack of understanding of its distribution, abundance, and population trends. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme responsible for the dephosphorylation of extra-cytoplasmic molecules. Conversion to a neutral molecule enhances their ability to pass through cell membranes. When microbes such as Yersinia enterocolitica are ingested, they are exposed to large changes in pH level. These changes range from ~pH6.5 in the oral cavity to pH 2 in the stomach and pH 8 in the mid-intestine. Proteins harboring intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) lacking stable secondary or tertiary structures are abundant across the three domains of life. These regions have not been systematically studied in prokaryotes. Here, our genome-wide analysis identifies extracytoplasmic serine/threonine-rich IDRs in several biologically important membrane-associated proteins in streptococci. We demonstrate that these IDRs are glycosylated with glucose by glycosyltransferases GtrB and PgtC2 in Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus pneumoniae, and with N-acetylgalactosamine by a Pgf-dependent mechanism in Streptococcus mutans. The absence of glycosylation leads to a defect in biofilm formation under ethanol-stressed conditions in S. mutans. We link this phenotype to the C-terminal IDR …

Background: Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and its early detection is crucial for improving patient outcomes. This study aimed to develop and evaluate ensemble learning models, specifically stacking, for the accurate prediction of lung, breast, and cervical cancers using lifestyle and clinical data.

Methods: 12 base learners were trained on datasets for lung, breast, and cervical cancer. Stacking ensemble models were then developed using these base learners. The models were evaluated for accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, AUC-ROC, MCC, and kappa. An explainable AI technique, SHAP, was used to interpret model predictions.

Research indicates that human-caused mortality (HCM) is a key factor limiting numerous large carnivore populations. However, efforts to represent HCM in spatially explicit models have generally been limited in scope-often relying on proxies, such as road or human density. Yet such efforts fail to distinguish different sources of HCM, which can arise from different antecedent processes. We offer a systems-based conceptual framework for understanding the antecedents of HCMs that is grounded in theory from the social and behavioral sciences. Microbial communities in sand play essential roles in their ecosystems, yet little is known about how bacterial diversity and function vary across different sand depths. This study investigated bacterial microbiomes at varying depths (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 cm) on Biloxi East Beach, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and assays of extracellular enzyme activity. 11,161 amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) were identified across all samples, with the most abundant bacterial phyla being Planctomycetota, Gammaproteobacteria, and Bacteroidota. Trematodes are parasitic flatworms that infect freshwater snails and can cause changes in metabolic function and growth. Background/objectives: Persistent pulmonary nodules are at higher risk of developing into lung cancers. Assessing their future cancer risk is essential for successful interception. We evaluated the performance of two risk prediction models for persistent nodules in hospital-based cohorts: the Brock model, based on clinical and radiological characteristics, and the Sybil model, a novel deep learning model for lung cancer risk prediction.

Increasing research has been conducted on antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) for their oncology applications and potential as treatments for immunological diseases. ADCs usually covalently bind a cytotoxic drug (payload) via a linker to a monoclonal antibody, which targets specific antigens expressed on tumors, delivering the drug directly to cancer cells while minimizing off-target effects. In addition to binding antigens on tumor cells, antibodies also interact with immune cells to activate “effector functions”. The purpose of this research project is to unveil how the use of greenwashing tactics in marketing can influence a consumer’s actions and purchasing behavior in regard to sunscreen product packaging. It aims to uncover whether environmentally charged language or imagery (or both) on a product has an impact on a consumer’s willingness to purchase the product and their perceptions of the product’s health for their body and the environment. The nematode, formally known as Caenorhabditis elegans, has served as an excellent model organism in understanding fundamental biological processes, including those governed by conserved genes like pros-1. pros-1 is partially responsible for the formation of tubular structures within the organism. Glial cells and excretory canals are both examples of tubular structures governed by pros-1. pros-1 orchestrates the embryonic development of these cell types by modulating cell proliferation and differentiation, thus ensuring proper morphogenesis and organogenesis.
