Spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) is a dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disease caused by a CAG repeat expansion in the ataxin-1 gene, which results in an abnormally long polyglutamine tract. Similarly, overexpression of wildtype Ataxin-1 (wt-Atx-1) in Drosophila melanogaster leads to neurodegeneration, reduced lifespan, and impaired negative geotaxis. Observations include disruptions in sleep-wake cycles, increased oxidative stress biomarkers (like protein carbonyls), and dysregulation of developmental genes such as armadillo (arm) and nemo kinase (nmo). Additionally, elevated expression of SUMOylation-related genes (Aos-1, Uba2, and dSmt3 or dSumo) and increased SUMO protein levels indicate enhanced SUMOylation in the brain. Insect scouting in soybean is a labor-intensive task but is needed throughout the season to minimize losses. When soybeans are tall, soils are wet, or soybeans are planted in narrow rows, walking through these fields can be difficult. To overcome these limitations of manual sampling, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sampling platform was developed that can collect insects in a sweep net attached to the bottom of a UAV. This system has been named the “Drone Insect Net Sampling System” (DINSS). Previous research with this system has shown positive correlations to traditional manual sampling methods. The objective of this research was to investigate the biopreservative effects of chitosan and lemon essential oil in slush ice treatments on the microbial shelf life of refrigerated catfish fillets. Catfish fillets were stored in slush ice treatments containing chitosan (CH), lemon essential oil (LO), a combination (CH+LO), water (CTRL), and no slush (NS) for three d at 4 C, then stored at 4C for twelve d post-slush. The growth of background microflora in catfish fillets treated with CH and CH+LO was reduced (P<0.05), maintaining total aerobic counts below 4.5 log CFU/g, while the control reached spoilage levels (>7 log CFU/g) by Day 6. OBJECTIVE The profession of Athletic Training (AT) has undergone a substantial educational overhaul in the last decade, adding more advanced knowledge and skills than ever before. With more than 50% of the profession having obtained their certification more than 10 years prior,1 it is essential that we understand the varying levels of confidence in evaluating and managing these new skills, so that appropriate continuing education opportunities can be developed to bridge any gaps that may be identified. 20-year-old male basketball athlete with recurring upper and lower extremity instability injuries presented fall 2021 with shoulder and ankle instability. A past medical history of thermal capsulorrhaphy from high school with surgical intervention May 2021 (college first year). October 2021 athlete began experiencing rotator cuff strains in both shoulders. November 2021, December 2021, January 2022 athlete experiences recurrent right ankle sprains. Lower extremity overuse injuries are becoming increasingly more prevalent in endurance-based running sports1,2,3,4,5,6. These injuries negatively impact an athlete’s sports performance and increase the risk of additional injuries3,4. The purpose of this study was to first examine kinematic and kinetic variables within distance runners and compare those with previous lower extremity injuries to those without reported injuries; and second to understand if such variables predicted future injuries sustained throughout a track season.

Marching bands have become more popular and physically demanding, with performers taking up to 16,174 steps on game days, which may increase their risk of musculoskeletal injuries. OBJECTIVE
Concussion assessments typically include evaluations of self-reported symptoms, neurocognitive function, and postural control. Specifically, postural control is often assessed using the modified Balance Error Scoring System (mBESS). Although normative mBESS data exist, they may not be appropriate for all athletes, such as those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (D/HoH). Given the relationship between the cochlea and the vestibular system, athletes who are D/HoH may exhibit differences in postural control due to potential vestibular dysfunction. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare mBESS performance between athletes who are D/HoH and athletes who are hearing.

We created a model to test the immunosuppressive capacity of Helios+FOXP3+ eTregs compared to nTregs against islet-specific autoreactive T cells. We also showed that nTregs decrease the response of these cytotoxic T cells when co-cultured with BetaLox5 cells.

We investigate the representational dynamics of recurrent convolutional neural networks (RCNNs) in order to understand the time-course of visual recognition. We explore a family of models with bottom-up and lateral connections that were optimized for face-identification and object-recognition tasks. Using representational similarity analysis (RSA), we observed that only models that were trained for face identification showed a late-emerging prominent distinction of identities as seen in the monkey face patch AM. Early model responses strongly separated the objects from the faces. Visual processing is divided into a ventral and dorsal pathway, thought to be important for object recognition and spatial cognition, respectively. Yet both streams encode shape and spatial information, and both are modulated by attention and task demands. This study compared how attention influences fMRI bold responses in a ventral region (fusiform gyrus, FG) and dorsal region (superior parietal gyrus, SPG). Specifically, using multivariate pattern analysis within each region, we examined whether attention modulated spatial location classification performance. The expansion of intra-muscular adipose tissue (IMAT) between myofibers and epi-muscular adipose tissue (EMAT) outside of the muscle boundary accompanies numerous pathologies including diabetes, muscular dystrophy, and aging. IMAT and EMAT are anatomically juxtaposed to myofibers. Some evidence supports that IMAT and EMAT impede muscle function. This is potentially due to paracrine factors that are secreted by IMAT/EMAT. [Objective ] The effects of the transcription regulation system on menaquinone- 7 (MK- 7) production in Bacillus subtilis (B.subtilis ) 168 were studied by excavating transcription regulators.[Method ] With the signal molecule PhrG pentapeptide,RapG,and the transcription regulator DegU,a PhrG-RapG-DegU regulatory system was successfully constructed in B.subtilis 168 to fine-tune the expression of key genes,so that the expression of key genes in the MK- 7 synthesis pathway can respond to the changes in cell density.[Result ] The production of MK- 7 in strain BS 06 reached 102.47 mg/L through this system.[Conclusion ] Fine tuning of quorum sensing can effectively improve the …

[Objective ] This study aims to investigate the immunoregulatory mechanisms of lactoferrin formula and its four nutritional components (α-lactalbumin,N-acetylneuraminic acid,yeast β-glucan,and lactoferrin ) in RAW 264.7 macrophages.[Method ] M1 and M 2 macrophage polarization were induced by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and interleukin (IL)-4,respectively.Quantitative real-time PCR,flow cytometry,and Western blot were employed to analyze macrophage polarization and related signaling pathways.[Result ] Lactoferrin formula enhanced the phagocytic activity of macrophages and dose-dependently inhibited M 1 polarization while promoting M 2 polarization within the range of 10~50 µg/mL.A combination of four nutritional components exhibited similar effects,with greater effects than the three-component combination.Additionally,the lactoferrin formula upregulated …

Ewing Sarcoma (ES) is a malignant pediatric bone tumor driven by chromosomal translocations and fusion oncogenes with limited targeted treatment options. This study investigated the chemopreventive potential of two natural compounds, Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) found in green tea, and Alpha L-Mangostin from mangosteen, on apoptosis and gene expression in ES cells. We hypothesized that EGCG and Alpha L-Mangostin treatment would induce apoptosis and downregulate cancer-promoting genes. [Objective ] The aim of this study is to explore the effects of dextran with a small molecular weight (SDex ) on the viability of intestinal microorganisms.[Method ] The probiotic effects of laboratory-designed SDex containing only α-1,6 glycosidic bonds was evaluated by in vitro fermentation with nine typical intestinal strains,including strains from the genera Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus,as well as species such as Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis.The microbial proliferation and organic acid production during fermentation were compared among SDex,commercial dextran 20 (Dex 20),and isomalto-oligosaccharides (IMOs ).[Result ] SDex and IMOs significantly promoted the proliferation of probiotics such as Bifidobacterium and …

The CRISPR/Cas system can recognize foreign DNA,cut the target,and block or silence the expression of the foreign gene.Due to its precise targeting function,the CRISPR/Cas system has been developed as a highly efficient gene editing tool.With high specificity and operability,the CRISPR/Cas system has been combined with biosensors to improve the detection specificity and efficiency of the sensors.This review introduces the characteristics and applications of CRISPR/Cas system,analyzes the latest progress in the application of CRISPR/Cas system-based biosensors in the detection of foodborne pathogens,and summarizes and prospects the application of such biosensors.

[Objective ] This study aims to evaluate the antibiotic resistance and transmission risk of Enterococcus faecalis (E.faecalis ) in the pork production chain.[Method ] A total of 300 samples were collected from the surface of live pigs,carcasses,and the environment in 2 pig farms,1 slaughterhouse,and 2 markets in Hangzhou,Zhejiang.The strain identification,antibiotic resistance phenotypes,resistance genotypes,and virulence genotypes were performed by 16S rDNA sequences,broth microdilution method (MIC ),and PCR.In addition,multilocus sequencing typing (MLST ) and conjugational transfer tests were conducted.[Result ] The 125 isolates of E.faecalis showed high resistance to antibiotics such as tiamulin,tetracycline,and doxycycline,and the isolates from pig farms showed higher antibiotic …

[Objective ] Functional constipation is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder caused by multiple factors,with a relatively high and increasing prevalence in China.Previous studies have found that Bacillus coagulans (B.coagulans )CCFM 1041 can alleviate symptoms of functional constipation in mice.[Method ] A double-blind,randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the clinical efficacy of CCFM 1041 in relieving functional constipation.A total of 73 participants were observed for changes in constipation-related indicators,serum levels of gastrointestinal regulatory neurotransmitters,and gut microbiota before and after the intervention.[Result ] After taking CCFM 1041,84.2% of participants experienced increased bowel movement frequency,and 94.7% of participants showed improved stool consistency.Compared …
