Enhancing 5g Fixed Wireless Access In Rural Settings Via Machine Learning-Driven Resource Optimization, Maryam Amini
Enhancing 5g Fixed Wireless Access In Rural Settings Via Machine Learning-Driven Resource Optimization, Maryam Amini
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Providing broadband access to rural communities continues to be an important societal problem whose solution would help to break down the digital divide. While 5G wireless networks may be used for rural broadband, a key challenge is the placement of base stations, which is exacerbated by the use of high frequencies in the millimeter-wave band. Such technology requires an unobstructed line of sight, demanding meticulous planning of the number, height, and location of base stations for optimal coverage. Conventional methods, such as ray-tracing to simulate signal propagation across varied terrain, are computational costly and not feasible for vast coverage areas. …

We will describe spin-transparent storage rings that exhibit spin-coherence times of several hours and store a large number of particles and their use in novel applications. For example, these rings can be used to directly measure the electric dipole moment of the electron, relevant to CP violation and matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe, and to search for dark energy and ultra-light dark matter*. These rings can also serve as a compelling platform for quantum computing. In this presentation, we will describe how spin-transparent rings can be used in conjunction with ion traps to enhance scalability and increase quantum coherence times …

Application Of The Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming Technique For The Economic Planning Of Transmission Networks In New Manner, Nader Shawky Abdelhakeem, Maged Gamal Lotfy, Mohamed Shibl Albags, Ahmed Saied Elzawawy
Mansoura Engineering Journal
In the recent years, the mathematical planning model of transmission networks based on full AC load flow has been developed. But, due to the model non-convexity and the existing of large number of local solutions, this model can only be used for small size networks as it consumes large unreasonable computation time in addition to its incapability to yield global solution in most cases. To overcome these problems, two new iterative solution procedures have been presented in this paper. In the first one, the objective function is changed to the minimization of the number of new lines required to satisfy …

Detecting Bearing Race Defects With Inductive Magnetic Reluctance Sensors And Artificial Neural Networks, Collin Daly
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
This work proposes a method of detecting physical damage to bearing races in a rotational assembly by means of magnetic reluctance sensors generating a signal from a rotating gear-tooth wheel. A nominally sinusoidal signal is generated based on the rotation of a gearwheel with regularly spaced voids and lands. Detection is based on the time variance of the signal periodically in relation to the gearwheel and the bearing damage. The purpose of this work is to propose a process to detect and classify bearing race defects using existing sensors and neural networks for hazardous area equipment applications.

Lightweight Neural Network Pipeline Model For Drone Collision Prediction System Using Limited Computing Resources, Rifqi Nabila Zufar
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis focuses on developing a drone collision prediction algorithm by adapting the Neural Network Pipeline (NNP) for use in limited computing resources devices. While NNP is effective with sufficient computation, its performance in constrained environments remains untested. To address this issue, an adaptation of NNP using post-training quantization is developed. This method effectively compresses the model by reducing the precision of the 32-bit floating point. This adaptation aims at reducing model complexity and offers significant benefits in terms of reduced model size, increased processing speed, and reduced power consumption. It results in the expense of prediction accuracy. The MobileNetV3Small …

Small Object Detection Techniques In Remote Sensing Images Using Aam And Raspp, Farhan Iqbal
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Remote sensing technology has advanced substantially, with significant research focused on identifying and recognizing small, distant objects within large-scale scenes. Despite these strides, the task remains difficult due to limitations in image resolution, varied object scales, dense object distribution, and diverse orientations. Current object detection methods often struggle to maintain the fine detail essential for small object detection, resulting in the loss of critical information. To address this, we introduce an Advanced Attention Mechanism (AAM) that combines a novel Combined Channel and Spatial Attention (CCSA) approach with Residual Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (RASSP). This integration enhances detection accuracy by preserving …

This dissertation focuses on the design, development, and experiment of a programmable metasurface-based reconfigurable reflectarray (R-RA) system, featuring dual polarizations and 1-bit phase shift resolution. The proposed R-RA unit cell incorporates PIN diodes to dynamically control the reflection phase of incident waves, enabling real-time beam control. The dissertation addresses the complexity of the biasing network by introducing a digital control system based on a microcontroller and shift registers, allowing independent biasing control of each unit cell. A 16 by 16 R-RA array using a microstrip Jerusalem cross-shaped element is designed, fabricated, and experimentally tested. Simulations and measurements are conducted to …

Application Of Unscented Kalman Filter To State Of Charge Estimation Of Lithium-Ion Battery, Joshua Chun-Ken Dardchuntuk
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Accurately estimating the State of Charge (SoC) in lithium-ion batteries is crucial for optimizing performance, lifespan, and safety in applications such as electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. Traditional methods like Coulomb counting and voltage-based techniques are often inaccurate due to measurement noise, incorrect initialization, and battery aging. This thesis explores the use of the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) for real-time SoC estimation, addressing nonlinear battery behavior. Computer simulations in MATLAB/Simulink demonstrate the UKF's high accuracy by comparing estimated SoC with ideal reference SoC, showing improved convergence and reduced Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The simulations use an ideal load …
