This study describes a novel agricultural plant disease detecting smart system, capable of handling measured plant body parameters and images received by high resolution camera at the same time. This research presents an extended performance analysis of an indoor Visible Light Communication (VLC) system by integrating experimental results with advanced GEANT4 simulations. Building on a prior empirical study that evaluated different LED configurations and photodetectors, this work explores critical environmental and spatial parameters that influence VLC efficiency and reliability. Parameters such as wall reflectivity, emission angles, photon energy, and photon travel time are systematically analyzed using a validated GEANT4 simulation framework. This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control methodology for an EV drive system under open phase fault (OPF). This thesis entails the study, design, and construction of a novel DC-DC converter topology, the Zero Voltage Switching Hybrid Voltage Divider (ZVS-HVD), with improved modularization, optimization, and compactness. The ZVS-HVD facilitates higher load currents and accomplishes DC-DC voltage division through switching inductors and capacitors. Low switching loss is achieved through zero voltage switching (ZVS) and the use of GANFET switches. Parametric acoustic arrays are directional loudspeakers that operate using ultrasonic carriers to project sound within a narrow beam. Input audio is first modulated onto an ultrasonic carrier and transmitted through air, where it self-demodulates into audible frequencies in the far field.
This thesis introduces a method for preprocessing audio into scaled quadrature signals using a passive analog polyphase filter. These signals are modulated using microcontroller-generated waveforms to create quadrature ultrasonic pulse-width modulation (PWM) signals. This paper presents the design and implementation of a high-frequency buck converter operating at 1 MHz, integrated with voltage and current sensing capabilities for enhanced output regulation. The primary objective is to minimize transient dips in output voltage commonly observed during load disturbances or switching events. The converter design is intended to be compatible with a Digitally Assisted Analog Computing Circuit (DAACC) for real-time model predictive control (MPC), which leverages fast analog elements with programmable digital components to solve a penalty-based reformulation of the quadratic optimization problem underlying conventional MPC.

This work presents the design, fabrication, and testing of a high-voltage piezoelectric actuator driver system purposed for integration into defense and aerospace precision motion control applications, particularly those in laser optics. The core challenge addressed was the mismatch between the standardized 28V DC power bus used in military systems and the significantly higher voltage requirements of piezoelectric actuators. This dissertation presents a comprehensive automated framework for power converter design, leveraging reinforcement learning (RL) and graph-transformer networks (GTN) to address critical inefficiencies in traditional manual topology optimization. Motivated by the combinatorial increase of circuit design spaces and the computational cost of iterative simulations, this work develops a robust framework for generating energy-efficient topologies requiring rapid and reliable circuit design.

Amplification is a fundamental function in most analog circuits. There is a fast-growing demand for low-power, low-noise, and high-gain amplifiers. Modern semiconductor processes are increasingly optimized for digital applications, which has introduced new challenges in analog design. To address these challenges, analog designers have investigated replacing conventional analog circuits with digital implementations. The Josephson Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifier (TWPA) has emerged as a key technology for high-fidelity qubit readout in superconducting quantum computing. By leveraging the nonlinear inductance of an array of Josephson Junctions, the TWPA enables broadband, near-quantum-limited amplification with minimal added noise, significantly improving the signal-to-noise ratio in qubit measurements. Unlike traditional resonant parametric amplifiers, which suffer from bandwidth constraints, the traveling wave design of the TWPA allows for wideband operation, making it particularly suited for multiplexed readout of both simple qubits and large-scale quantum processors.

Ionospheric plasma research in the Space and Atmospheric Instrumentation Laboratory’s Space Plasma Chamber has been hindered by the lack of a suitable plasma diagnostic instrument and understanding of its hot-filament plasma source. This thesis describes efforts made to remedy both problems. A wide-range Sweeping Langmuir Probe was developed with a ±35 V sweeping range to fully analyze ion and electron saturation regions in the entire IV curve. A method was derived to estimate the chamber source’s filament temperatures.
