In industrial chemical manufacturing processes, the amount of raw data generated can add complexity in the analysis and understanding of the process dynamics. Being able to properly interpret this data can help improve plant operation, especially regarding safety and profitability. This research has culminated in FastMan-JMP, a platform proposed for monitoring of industrial processes and optimization of the offline data-driven model-building process as part of the process monitoring workflow. Oh, My Darling Clementine: A Detailed History And Data Repository Of The Los Alamos Plutonium Fast Reactor, Hannah K. Patenaude, Franz J. Freibert

The Los Alamos Plutonium Fast Reactor, Clementine, provided the first fast neutron spectrum using a metallic plutonium fuel system and liquid mercury coolant. Clementine is often mentioned in the history of fast, metal-fueled, or metal-cooled designs, with little public information regarding the specifications or timeline. This paper contains a synopsis of each report regarding the development, operation, experimental results, failures, and subsequent disassembly of Clementine to explore this unique reactor within the context of modern advanced reactor development.

The article discusses the creation of algorithmic structures and the development of digital control systems for electric drives of mine-lifting machines, provides some concepts for creating digital control systems using thyristor converters. The analysis of the static volt-ampere characteristics of the thyristor is given, some calculations of the circuits and circuits of the thyristor converter (TP) corresponding to the different modes of operation of the TP are given, and also, based on the synthesis of the dynamic properties and characteristics of the thyristor, an algorithmic structure of the model of the thyristor converter is proposed.

It is proposed to include virtual instrumental quality analyzers of potash fertilizers in the composition of the advanced (advanced) management system. The structure of the virtual analyzer is substantiated using mathematical models of the technological process of drying potassium chloride in its composition. Based on the results of fuzzy clustering, the parameters of the modes of the technological process of drying potassium chloride are determined.

Hydraulic mechanisms that actuate flat gates, widely used in hydraulic structures, are studied as hydraulic actuators of the system. Their static mathematical models are developed using an integrated methodology with a hydraulic pump, inlet and suction pipes, and internal and external resistance factors. Unlike existing mathematical models, the model developed in this paper allows a detailed description of the characteristics of hydraulic drives due to the fact that pressure losses in the throttle, regulator, and power amplifier, as well as local resistances in hydraulic pipelines, are taken into account.

Innovative technologies for refining vegetable oils are presented, as well as the qualitative characteristics of raw vegetable oils obtained by extraction and mechanical methods. A general review of the chemical composition and impurities of vegetable oils resulting from the reaction between glycerol and fatty acids is carried out, and a brief review of the study to determine the effect of refining on biologically active components.

Additionally, it is suggested that the generalized structure be presented as a three-part scheme, consisting of a raw material department, a processing shop, and transportation networks. Agro-processing industry is faced with a challenge of slicing of vegetables for immediate consumption. This stems from the fact that the traditional slicing methods use bare hands, and knives. As cyberphysical systems research advances, energy systems will be able to benefit from the developments. In this section, we discuss several points in two newer areas for cyberphysical systems research in chemical engineering: 1) cybersecurity of process control systems; and 2) quantum computation of control actions. The discussion is presented in a general manner, with relevance to flow systems or under traditional control laws (e.g., proportional control). However, to showcase energy systems relevance, we will provide links, at intervals, between the developments discussed and enhanced geothermal systems with energy production through the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC).

Demand for sustainable food sources has increased because of the rapid growth of the world's population. In this study, microalgae cells of Haematococcus pluvialis were immobilized using the edible fungal strain Aspergillus awamori for potential food applications. The study investigated the impact of fungal loading, pellet geometry, and initial microalgae cell concentration on the immobilization performance and product characteristics. It was found that higher fungal loading and larger fungal pellets contributed to increased immobilization performance while increased initial microalgae concentration inhibited the process. Larger fungal pellets had decreased biomass density, which led to decreased surface concentration of immobilized microalgae but …

Using two Arduino microcontrollers, level and temperature Proportional-Integral control systems for a continuously stirred tank reactor were designed and configured. Open-loop step tests were performed and fitted with First Order Plus Time Delay responses so that controller tuning parameters could be analytically derived. The effectiveness of the designed systems was evaluated by monitoring the response of closed-loop setpoint changes.
