In this response to Fettes's "Imagination and Experience," the authors further consider the varieties of educational experience that inspire ecological flourishing and a living democracy. The essential interconnectedness of encounter-driven and language-driven ways of knowing are explored with particular reference to the authors' involvement in a research project at an innovative elementary school in British Columbia, Canada.

Investigation Of Learning Style Preferences Of Business Students, Chen Wu, Dominick E. Fazarro

Online Journal for Workforce Education and Development

This study investigates learning style preferences of college business majors. We find they prefer the Structure learning style as defined by the Dunn and Dunn Learning Style Model (1978). Modification of instructional techniques to suit this preference generates a marginal significant increase in the performance of students in the experimental group relative to the control group as measured by their Final Course Grade Average (FCGA).

Teaching has long been considered a stressful profession and is becoming even more stressful because of recent changes in state- and national-level educational policies that govern K-12 education. Teachers who take on additional, extracurricular roles, such as athletic coaching, may be even more prone to stress and burnout. Using occupational socialization theory and role theory, the purpose of this dissertation was to develop a more comprehensive understanding of role stressors, burnout, and resilience among teacher/coaches and non-coaching teachers. Recent active shooter events in our nation highlight the need for organizations to have comprehensive violence prevention/intervention plans in place. While much has been done to address violence in the workplace and on college campuses, K-12 schools have been slow to develop a comprehensive violence prevention/intervention curriculum for faculty, staff and students. This project was completed to meet the needs of the Catholic Schools within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. This article describes the Notre Dame ACE Academies initiative, a university-school partnership program that provides comprehensive support to schools through a unique governance structure. The authors describe how the university’s experience of an earlier partnership initiative informed the development of the Notre Dame ACE Academies model and the rationale for establishing of a new governance model for the program. The closure of nearly half of Catholic elementary schools in the United States since the 1960s has led to the development of many innovative initiatives to stabilize, strengthen, and sustain urban Catholic elementary education. Improving school governance models has been a common agenda of these efforts. This study examined the governance models in use by urban Catholic elementary schools across the United States. Seven major governance models for urban Catholic elementary schools were identified and studied using structured interviews and document analysis.
