Framing Generative Ai Through A Critical Media Literacy Lens: A Reflective Practitioner-Inquiry Study, Ali Söken, Kysa Nygreen

International Journal of Transformative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

In this practice-based article, we share our experiences integrating Generative AI (GenAI) conversations into an undergraduate Critical Media Literacy course. Drawing from student surveys and self-assessments, qualitative analysis of classroom discussions, and reflective conversations between the authors, we found that our students perceived AI as both a learning aid and potential tool for cheating, depending on its intended use. We also found that students required more time and support than we initially thought to develop a critical perspective on GenAI tools. The Pluit and North Sunter Reservoirs play a critical role in the city’s hydrological infrastructure, particularly in meeting the increasing water demands driven by population growth. However, continuous population shifts, deforestation, and changes in land use have led to sediment accumulation, affecting both water quality and the reservoirs’ operational lifespan. This study aims to evaluate the erosion rate and predict the potential lifespans of the Sunter Utara and Pluit Reservoirs. This study aims to develop a Project-Based Flipped Classroom (PjBFC) learning model to enhance geography education students' 4C skills when submitting research projects related to geography and geography education. It also seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the PjBFC model in improving these skills during the submission of research proposals in the field. The development process follows the ADDIE framework, consisting of assessment, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Learning Simulation Virtual Reality (LSVR) model in enhancing disaster preparedness for Merapi Volcano and examines the relationship between disaster preparedness and student learning outcomes. Conducted with 120 students from two senior high schools located in disaster-prone areas near Merapi Volcano in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia, the research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group setup. The Extended School Year (ESY) is a federal program that falls under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Law (2004) as part of Special Education in public schools in the United States. It is intended to help reduce regression in student progress towards Individualized Education Program goals. Using Schlossberg’s adult transition theory, it explores the effects of invisible barriers, enrollment trends, and institutional factors on veteran student success, leveraging the VA’s GI Bill Comparison tool to examine public versus private school support. Findings underscore the need for targeted resources, faculty training, and institutional awareness to foster a supportive and inclusive environment that enhances veteran students' academic success and sense of belonging.

This report offers the first overview of the “what, where, and when” of AI-related legislation introduced in U.S. state legislatures between 2019 and 2024, analyzing key policy trends, priorities, and equity considerations. Although relatively few bills have been enacted, legislative activity has accelerated, reflecting growing political attention to the promises and risks of AI.
