Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is an online learning platform which has been introduced in Malaysian government-aided schools in 2012. Despite prominent calls for implementing Frog VLE and the efforts of the Ministry of Education (MOE), the application of this technology has yet to meet the expectations of MOE. The purpose of this multiple-paper dissertation is to design a digital game and stealth assessments within the game to assess young second language learners' Chinese reading proficiency. In Chapter 2 (Paper 1), I describe the game designed for this dissertation and how it was implemented in a dual language immersion classroom. This study found that the digital game and in-class implementation led to significant vocabulary and reading comprehension gains. Further, seven types of support that students needed while playing the game were identified. The study aimed to identify importance of using assistive technology with students with intellectual disabilities in inclusive education schools from the perspective of teachers and to reveal statistically significant differences in means of their responses about importance of using assistive technology in inclusive schools according to the following variables (number of students in classroom, degree of disability, years of experience, and attending training on using technology). This cross-cultural qualitative study investigated the attitudes and perceptions of language students towards computer-assisted language learning (CALL). We examined the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of CALL in language education according to Iranian and Spanish students’ perceptions and attitudes. In addition, we found out the differences between Iranian and Spanish language students’ perceptions and attitudes towards CALL. The participants were 237 language students, and the researchers applied an online 10 open-ended question instrument for data collection and a SWOT analysis for data analysis.
