Enhancing Student Success Prediction With Multimodal Machine Learning Models, Senay Berhe
Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters
This project explores how multimodal, fairness-aware machine learning models can enhance early prediction of student success while promoting equity in higher education. Traditional prediction models often rely on static academic or demographic data, which can unintentionally reinforce bias and overlook the complex, behavioral aspects of learning. Our approach integrates engagement metrics from learning management systems, academic performance data, and motivational survey responses to capture a more holistic view of student learning. The predictive framework emphasizes behavioral and psychological features that are both actionable and ethically sound, supporting real-time intervention through the iTOOLS platform. By focusing on engagement consistency and motivational …

Building Consensus For School Librarian Collaboration: A Delphi Study, Pamela C. Harland, Susan D. Ballard, Rachel V. Small
Learning Hub
This Delphi study engaged 38 national experts in school librarianship to develop a consensus-based model of school librarian collaboration (SLC) that reflects current practice. Through three iterative rounds the panel achieved strong consensus on a definition of SLC, a framework representing a continuum of collaborative practice, and necessary conditions for success. The resulting definition of SLC is "an educator-to-educator partnership to enhance student learning through complementary expertise that develops over time and is built on mutual trust, shared goals, and open communication." The seven levels continuum of SLC are: Autonomy, Curation, Contribution, Coordination, Integration, Partnership, and Assurance. These levels allow …

Exploring Generation Z Student Satisfaction In Radiography Programs Within A Southern State: Development And Application Of A Survey Instrument For Leadership Use, Brittany Seruntine Smith
Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation employed a sequential exploratory mixed-methods design to examine the extent to which Generation Z students in radiography programs within a southern state perceive that their needs and expectations are being fulfilled. Additionally, the study examined how program leaders perceived and plan to utilize the survey and its findings within the cycle of continuous program improvement and accreditation readiness. A Likert-scale survey instrument was constructed by cross-referencing Generation Z’s characteristics, needs, and expectations with JRCERT standards. Items were refined through target population focus groups and validated using Lawshe’s Content Validity Ratio. The validated instrument was then administered to Generation …

For The Good Times: The Influence Of Leaders' Regret On Risk-Taking Behavior In Decision-Making, Ashley Elizabeth Owen
Doctoral Dissertations
Regret is a powerful and often underexplored emotion that significantly shapes leadership decision-making, particularly in high-stakes environments where the consequences of choices have lasting impacts on individuals, organizations, and communities. The researcher utilized qualitative research to explore how various forms of regret, including anticipatory regret, self-blame regret, and existential regret, influence risk-taking behavior and decision-making processes among higher education leaders within the University of Louisiana System. Drawing upon behavioral decision theory, regret theory, prospect theory, and emotional intelligence frameworks, the study aimed to understand how leaders experience, process, and respond to the emotional dynamics of regret within complex organizational settings. …

Tensions And Transformations: Equity, Diversity, And Inclusion In A Diverse Urban School Division, Lesley Eblie Trudel, Kishi Anderson Leachman, Wayne Davies
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
This study examines how equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are understood and implemented within a large, diverse, urban school division in Canada. Using a mixed-methods approach and grounded in theoretical perspectives, including critical race theory, intersectionality, the ecology of inclusive education, and collective efficacy theory, we gathered insights from surveys and focus groups with educators, administrators, clinicians, educational assistants, caregivers, and students. Findings suggest that, while support for EDI is broad, the implementation is inconsistent and shaped by systemic barriers, resource constraints, and unclear leadership. We highlight the need for shared language, coordinated supports, and ongoing professional learning and instructional …

The Retention Of African American Male Educators In Urban Schools: A Phenomenological Study, Justin Askew Standifer Jr.
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of retention for male educators in urban public schools in a large metropolitan area in the United States. The theory guiding this study is Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene Theory, as it offers insights into the intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting job satisfaction and retention, directly aligning with the focus on understanding what motivates male educators to remain in or leave their teaching positions. The central research question guiding this study is: " What are the lived experiences of retention for male educators in urban public schools?" This study employed …

This phenomenological study examined the perceptions and experiences of minority male students in their educational journeys, focusing on the influence of teacher familiarity and cultural awareness. Teacher familiarity referred to shared cultural backgrounds, lived experiences, and relational accessibility that fostered meaningful connections between students and educators. Cultural awareness was examined in relation to minority male educators, who comprised less than 3% of the national educator workforce. Guided by Tinto’s Student Retention Theory, the study explored how academic and social integration influenced student retention and success. The central research question was: What were the experiences of minority male college students regarding …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study examined the impact of education level on resilience among law enforcement recruits in a 28-week training program in Central Florida. Resilience is essential for recruits to manage the stresses of training, and understanding its relationship to education can improve recruitment and training practices. A total of 210 recruits participated, with data collected using the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS). Surveys were distributed through encrypted emails to ensure confidentiality and accuracy. Descriptive statistics summarized demographics and resilience scores, while the Shapiro-Wilk test and Levene’s test confirmed normality and homogeneity of variances. With assumptions met, a one-way ANOVA compared resilience scores …

The problem addressed in this study was that grades 6-12 principals and assistant principals are unprepared to support teachers’ planning and implementation of standards-based learning in classrooms at mid-size rural school districts in a single midwestern state. Grounded in Senge’s five disciplines of a learning organization, the purpose of this study was to examine grades 6-12 principals’ and assistant principals’ experiences and challenges, the resources needed, and the perceived influence of their leadership in the implementation of standards-based learning in content-area classrooms at the study sites. For this basic qualitative study, semistructured interviews were conducted with 11 principals and two …

Leadership Approaches And Behaviors That Positively Impact Collective Teacher Efficacy In Refugee Education, Anne Marie Chow
Education Dissertations
Collective teacher efficacy (CTE) has been shown to positively influence student learning, yet research on the role of leadership in cultivating CTE is still developing, even in mainstream schools. Even less is known about how leadership supports CTE in refugee-serving schools, where the challenges of displacement and interrupted education create additional complexity. This qualitative case study explored how leadership behaviors supported the development of CTE in Blue School, an international educational organization serving refugee youth. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers and leaders and through organizational documents. Inductive analysis revealed seven themes: shared purpose, trust and well-being, collaboration, …

African American male elementary school principals are rare in diverse public school settings across the United States. The problem investigated was the limited awareness of how African American male elementary principal aspirants experience and understand supports and barriers related to becoming a principal. Guided by Hallinger and Murphy’s instructional leadership theory, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore how African American male elementary school principal aspirants understand the supports and barriers to becoming principals. Data were collected using semistructured interviews with nine participants from a school district in the mid-Atlantic region who were state-certified and had been …
