This phenomenological study highlighted teachers' perceptions and experiences with principal support in improving classroom instruction. The issue addressed in this study is that classroom teachers may fail to improve classroom instruction or raise student achievement without the appropriate support of principals. The purpose of this qualitative research study was to explore the experiences of classroom teachers regarding the skills principals need, as effective instructional leaders, for classroom instruction. As the COVID-19 pandemic ended, the number of teachers leaving the profession soared resulting in a teacher shortage that is crippling schools. Public education is faced with unstaffed classrooms, uncertified teachers, and students missing quality instruction. The purpose of this phenomenological study is to illuminate the experiences before and during the COVID-19 pandemic that led to educators in South Carolina exiting the profession. Using Maslach’s burnout theory as a guiding theoretical framework, qualitative data was collected during ten in-depth interviews with former South Carolina educators. The purpose of this qualitative narrative study was to examine teachers’ perceptions on effective strategies to retain Black ninth-grade students Data was collected from 10 ninth-grade teachers who have at least three years of teaching experience of ninth-graders. The ninth-grade teachers shared their experiences of working with Black ninth-grade students while reflecting and sharing their perceptions on strategies they have implemented to prevent these students from dropping out of school. The study was grounded in Critical Race Theory (CRT). The purpose of this photovoice study was to better understand how the recent COVID-19 global health pandemic has professionally and emotionally impacted current school leadership. Educators faced varied challenges during this unprecedented time with a rapid shift from in-class to online or hybrid learning and often back and forth between both. The findings identified three overarching themes as major challenges faced by school leaders and professional school counselors during this pandemic: problem solving, emotional brutality, and exhaustion. The findings inform education stakeholders and policymakers about the experiences of educators in times of crisis, specifically during the recent global health pandemic. …

This research proposes a new model for Educational Leadership and Teacher Preparation Programs through a “Practitioner-Based Mentor-Teacher Candidate Model”, which is intended to be beneficial to both the aspiring school leader as the evaluator and mentor and the preservice teacher as the recipient of the feedback.
