The Relationship Between Internet Addiction Test Scores And Academic Achievement, Michael L. Houston, John Foubert 2024 Southern Nazarene University

The Relationship Between Internet Addiction Test Scores And Academic Achievement, Michael L. Houston, John Foubert

Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) score and academic performance in college students. The IAT measured the students’ addiction to the internet based upon their use. Academic performance was measured by grade point average (GPA). A sample of 692 traditional-aged college students from both public and private institutions was used to examine if IAT scores were related to and predictive of GPA. This study found a negative relationship between students’ IAT scores and GPAs. As IAT scores increased, students’ GPAs decreased. A better understanding of how internet addiction is related …

The Elephant In The Room: The Intersection Of Religion And Pornography Among Young Christian Men, Ryan Hewitt 2024 Johnson University

The Elephant In The Room: The Intersection Of Religion And Pornography Among Young Christian Men, Ryan Hewitt

Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development

Pornography presents a unique paradox for young Christians —a culturally normative phenomenon among younger generations, yet one that most Christians morally oppose. These conflicting trends make pornography an “elephant in the room” among young Christians today—an ever-present reality, yet one often not discussed due to its sensitive nature. This work presents a recent quantitative study exploring pornography use patterns and its impact on Evangelical Christian men from both Christian academic institutions and other social and religious contexts. Results revealed high levels of religiosity and porn use, and significant correlations between religiosity, porn use, potentially problematic use, and perceived problems due …

The Racial Attitudes Of White Students At A Christian Institution, Jarad Russell 2024 Winthrop University

The Racial Attitudes Of White Students At A Christian Institution, Jarad Russell

Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development

This phenomenological study used semi-structured interviews to understand the lived experiences and racial attitudes of White students at a Council for Christian Colleges and Universities institution as they related to Black people. The participants were asked about their past experiences with Black people, their discussions with family about race, their present understanding of terminology related to race and racism, and their desire to support racial justice in the future. Through this study, three categories of students emerged: those that had taken steps to educate themselves on matters related to race and racism, those that were just beginning to understand issues …

Revisiting Domestic And International Study "Abroad" Program Learning Outcomes: A Qualitative Pilot Study, Jessica Martin 2024 Baylor University

Revisiting Domestic And International Study "Abroad" Program Learning Outcomes: A Qualitative Pilot Study, Jessica Martin

Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development

Christian institutions missionally commit to educate students to be both professionally competent and capable of engaging across difference. This quantitative pilot study analyzes survey responses from graduates of two intentionally-designed Christian off-campus study programs—one located in the United States and one located abroad. A multivariate analysis of covariance reveals graduates of both programs scored comparably on professional competency and engaging difference scales. This challenges narrow approaches to researching, designing, and promoting international study abroad programs as superior arenas for developing global competency and domestic programs as primarily focused on professional development. Consequently, Christian educators are invited reconsider how various off-campus …

Development Of An In-Service Teacher Educator: Becoming, Doing, Knowing, Being And Belonging Through The Tensions, Fatma Gümüşok, Gölge Seferoğlu

Australian Journal of Teacher Education

This qualitative case study analyses the professional identity development of an in-service teacher educator (ISTE) through her conceptualisations and tensions. The participant possesses multiple degrees in different fields (BA in physics teaching, MA and PhD in Educational Administration) and became an ISTE in English Language Teaching (ELT) with this interdisciplinary background. We mainly focused on her lived experiences of developing as an ISTE in ELT in the context of in-service teacher education (INSET) in Türkiye. The thematic content analysis of an in-depth face-to-face interview suggests that resolving tensions early may be needed for ISTEs to persevere in their new job. …

Effective decision-making by school administrators is crucial for enhancing student

learning outcomes. However, many non-finance administrators need a comprehensive

understanding of school funding and allocation, which can hinder their ability to make informed decisions that positively impact student learning. This paper explored the importance of preparing non-finance administrators specifically those at the “Participating Community Consolidated School District” (PCCSD)to navigate the complexities of school funding …

Exploring The Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Science Education In Teacher Training Institutions, Tindyebwa Alex David 2024 Aga Khan University

Exploring The Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Science Education In Teacher Training Institutions, Tindyebwa Alex David

Master of Education

This dissertation investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into science education at teacher training institutions, aiming to identify effective strategies for its implementation. The research focuses on the central question: How can AI be effectively integrated into science teacher training to enhance future science education practices?

Employing a Design-Based Implementation Research (DBIR) framework, the study fosters collaborative exploration and iterative development alongside science tutors, teachers, and administrators. This approach bridges the gap between academic research and practical classroom application, ensuring that any proposed AI integration strategies are both theoretically sound and readily adaptable to real-world educational settings.

The research's …

The White Way To Hire Presidents: Racism In The Search And Appointment Process, Román Liera, Cheryl D. Ching, Raquel M. Rall, Megan M. Chase, Estela M. Bensimon 2024 Montclair State University

The White Way To Hire Presidents: Racism In The Search And Appointment Process, Román Liera, Cheryl D. Ching, Raquel M. Rall, Megan M. Chase, Estela M. Bensimon

Department of Educational Leadership Scholarship and Creative Works

In this critical qualitative study, we draw on interviews with sitting Presidents of Color in one state to explore the racialized dimensions of the college and university presidential search and appointment process. Informed by Ray’s racialized organization tenets of whiteness as a credential and racialized agency, our findings show that participants felt hyper-scrutinized and judged against white, masculine standards, norms, and expectations and had to endure explicit and implicit undermining of their potential for campus leadership. Our findings provide practice implications and recommendations for making presidential searches and appointments in higher education more racially equitable and inclusive.
