Square Set System Of Timbering As Employed By The Shannon Copper Co., Ray Eugene Hoffman Jan 1908

Square Set System Of Timbering As Employed By The Shannon Copper Co., Ray Eugene Hoffman

Professional Degree Theses

"The properties of The Shannon Copper Co., consisting of mine and smelter, are located in the Southeastern part of Arizona in what is known as the Clifton-Morenci District. The smelter is located at Clifton and the mine at Metcalf, eight miles distant on an iron capped mountain known as Serro Preito.

From a geological standpoint the ore deposits of the Clifton-Morenci District are a freak. There are no fissure veins of any consequence in the district; all the large deposits are found in bodies, the ore usually occurring in a soft porphyry.

Underlying the iron capping on the Shannon property …

Pot Roasting Of Lead Ores, Ralph Robert Benedict, Edward Phillip Barrett, Frank William Harper Jan 1908

Pot Roasting Of Lead Ores, Ralph Robert Benedict, Edward Phillip Barrett, Frank William Harper

Bachelors Theses

"In this thesis for a starting point, we attempted a roast of straight galena with no diluent. As anticipated the results were nil. We next attempted the roast with a mixture of galena and silica, and obtained fair results. Our next experiment was to use limestone with the galena. Because of the large percentage of limestone present the results were not satisfactory. Next pyrites and limestone were used with the galena, and excellent results were obtained. We made another run, using pyrites and limestone, but increasing the per-centage of galena by 25%. This run was also very successful. From these …

Then it flows nearly due west and empties into the Gasconade River near Arlington, Mo. It drains an area of approximately two hundred square miles. The slopes of its drainage area being very steep, it is subject to large and sudden rises. As it is largely a spring fed stream its minimum flow is not far below its normal stage. The stream abounds in rapids with from a few inches to a foot or more …

Effect Of Arsenic On Assay For Gold And Silver, Rosco Conkling Ham, Frederick Arnold Moore

Bachelors Theses

"In presenting the within thesis, it is not claimed by the authors that the experiments have been, by any means, exhaustive of the subject. Neither is any claim made to original research work other than a series of simple experiments with a view to determining, if possible, some of the more important effects of Arsenic upon a fire assay for gold and silver as met with in the ordinary assay laboratory. To make a work complete and exhaustive on such a subject will require much more time and more complete apparatus than was available in the experiments covered by this …

The Composition And Analysis Of Zinc-Lead Pigment, Evans Walker Buskett Jan 1907

The Composition And Analysis Of Zinc-Lead Pigment, Evans Walker Buskett

Professional Degree Theses

"Zinc is present as oxide and sulphate. There are also probably zinc and lead sulphites. It has been suggested that there may be carbonates in this pigment, but this is not probable as the high temperature of the furnace, the complete combustion of the fuel to CO2 and the large excess of SO2 gas in the bagroom would tend to prevent their formation. There is also a chemical combination between the zinc oxide and the lead oxide which is probably a zinc plumbate. Some light can be thrown on the subject by the following experiments:"--page 1.

Meridian-Projecting Instruments And Methods, Albert Babbitt Bartlett Jan 1907

Meridian-Projecting Instruments And Methods, Albert Babbitt Bartlett

Bachelors Theses

"The writer's attention was called to the necessity of knowing the accuracy attainable in surveying which must depend upon the Meridian, and therefore be subject to the accuracy of it, in seeking information by which to decide what would be the most desirable transit to use in the West, particularly for United States Deputy Mineral Surveying. Descriptions of the manipulation, adjustments, and the cost, etc., of the various appliances are plentiful in the text-books on surveying and in the various catalogues; but there was no very definite information in regard to the actual probable and average accuracy, especially in the …

The Design Of Main Street Reinforced Concrete Arch Over Frisco R. R., Hyman Zirulick

Bachelors Theses

"Owing to the cheapness and durability of reinforced concrete, the tendency of the present time in Engineering practice is to build new and replace old structures with reinforced concrete. Therefore, in taking up a subject for a thesis, I have selected, The Investigation of the Design of a Reinforced concrete Arch," or, as I named it, "Main Street Reinforced concrete Arch over Frisco Railroad"--Introduction, page 1.

Graphical Representation Of Compressed Air Formulae, John Thomas Vitt, Paul Andrew Philippi

Bachelors Theses

"Air during compression and expansion obeys the same laws as do other gases and these laws have been mathematically stated by purely rational formulae. Most of these formulae are logarithmic and their use involves a considerable amount of work. The object of this thesis is to present these formulae in such form that problems involving their use may be readily and easily solved. It was decided to present them graphically and the accompanying curves are the results of our labors"--page 1.

Efficiency Of Mill Practice In The Joplin District, Ira Lee Wright

Bachelors Theses

"Milling in the Joplin District is, compared with the practice in other zinc fields, seemingly very crude. Copper Matting Blast Furnace Run, John Vivian Stevens, Frank Bowman Powell, John Dozier Shanks Jan 1906

Copper Matting Blast Furnace Run, John Vivian Stevens, Frank Bowman Powell, John Dozier Shanks

Bachelors Theses

"The theory of the copper blast furnace run having been given us in the class room, we wishing to familiarize ourselves with the practical processes and the difficulties involved, selected it as the basis of an investigation of which the following is a correct report. The original ore was a high grade copper sulphide from the Ducktown, Tenn. district to which was added some heavy pyritic ore from various quarters. The latter was added to furnish the iron oxide necessary as a flux in the blast furnace and sulphur in sufficient amount to make the ore self roasting when charged …
